From tap at Ølfestivalen, Nærbø, 20.10.17. Very dark brown. Dense and persistent off-white beige head and lacing. Fine aroma of roasted barley and a hint of citrus. Taste of citrus, wood, dark caramel, roasted barley and pine and citrus bitterness.

On tap @ Cafe Sara. On the tap it stood Jimmy Black / Pensjonisten but was told by the nice people behind the desk that this was two different brews and that I'm now having Pensjonisten(?) Guess I just have to take their word for it. Anyhow, in the glass this is a deep a deep dark ruby colored one. It's cloudy and it has a small quickly islandy beige lacing head. Smells quite chocolate and cocoa infused in a way. Dark chocolate wrapper with hints of both vanilla and wood. A nice roasted aroma. A fair amount of red berries in the taste a first, then it changes character completely going really roast and cocoa dry. Hmm, that's quite interesting and nice actually. It's light oily in the mouth, no idea what the abv is, but it feels perhaps a little light and it's soft and prickling on the carbonation bubbles. Really easy to drink this. Flavorful and leaving my mouth really sweet and roasted. A gentle hoppy balance to the darkness makes this even more interesting. Has to be some sort of black IPA /Stout hybrid. I like it. 23.04.2014

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours hazy dark brown with a solid off-white head. Aroma of pine needles, some tropical fruits, citrus, dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts. Tastes bitter. Needs more aroma hops for being a good BIPA.

On tap at Cafe Sara, pours black with a small tan head. Nose brings out roasted malt, piney hops, and dark chalky cocoa. Flavour is well-balanced, with roasted malt and dry hops battling for prominence. Bitter and roasted on the finish in equal parts. Very good by the books black IPA.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Large and creamy beige head. Mildly roasty aroma with notes of dark chocolate, liquorice and wood, also hints of fruity hops. The flavour is neither too sweet nor too dry, malty notes with chocolate and a hint of liquorice again, a whiff of smoke, hoppy finish with fruity hints and resinous notes, the bitterness comes through in the aftertaste.

On tap ay Café Sara, Oslo. Extremely difficult to judge colour in the backyard of Café Sara, but at least pretty dark with a possibly beige head. Surprisingly mild aroma, at first dominated but thr roasted malt with notes of dark chocolate and licorice. Hoppy notes with pine, some citrus and lightly herbal notes comes secondary. Fairly sweet and malty with nice roasty noted and some hoppy flavours too. Finishes somewhat dry with a certain bitterness. Tasty and nice, but would prefer more hoppy noted. Still a nice one.

Black and subtle red body with a fine big beige head. Good lacing. Coffee, chocolate, mild fruity and mild hoppy aroma. Medium pluss body. Moderate sweet and a fine bitterness. A bit dry ending. Soft carbonation. Roasted, coffee, some licorice, chocolate, mild fruity and mild hoppy. Really nice and tasty beer. Still not much a Black IPA.
