Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is strong floral hops, grassy and mild fruity with citrussy notes and light yeast. Flavour is light sweet with a harsh bitterness. Body is light to medium. Very ’Belgian’ with its floral hops and yeast, unbalanced with a harsh bitterness, decent Belgian session IPA.

Bottle from Prik & Tik, Sijsele. Pours hazy yellow with a lasting, small, frothy, white head; some lacing. Quite subtle aroma of yeast, breadcrust, white pepper, green banana, lime, citrus, spices, unripe pear. It tastes light fruity sweet, hint of apple & pear, a bit bready & yeasty, before a basic citric sourness introduces a medium hoppy bitterness that is grassy & somewhat grainy. Dry, grassy & bit peppery hoppy finish, with lingering yeast & grain, drying even ('Contrex'-like effect). Medium body, watery texture, fizzy carbonation. Not bad per se, but I expected it to be more 'modern' and of course, there are tastier Sessions IPAs to find.

The fourth beer in the Four Aces series by ‘brewhouse of cards’ Het Nest. Thick and frothy, snow white, stable head, completely closed for the entire session, over an initially cristal clear, warm and pure golden beer with fierce sparkling, turning misty with sediment. Aroma of old straw, moist white pepper, wormwood leaves, Angostura bitter liqueur, old onions, dried apple peel, damp hay, spoiled lee, bread crumbs, dust. Restrained fruitiness in the onset, touch of green apple and unripe pear, very low in sweetness with vividly fizzing carbonation; supple, cereally and bit grainy malt body with bread crust-like edges leading towards a very hop bitter finish, tonic water- and wormwood-like, peppery and very drying, lasting for a long time and producing some retronasal floral and slightly oniony aromas. More a classic Belgian “bitter blond” than a true session IPA really, very hop bitter but lacking in the delicate New World hop fragrance I tend to expect from the style, even if this bottle is not very fresh anymore and may have lost some of its aromatic properties already. Still, well-bodied for a beer of this modest ABV and very quaffable on a hot summer day like today.

Serieuze smaakbom met zo weinig alcohol. Heel bitter en droog.

Bottle at home. Bit hazy light golden with fluffy white head. Dry pils malts, chicory, grapefruit, grassy, strong German style hops. It’s a bit like a German lager with more fruity hops. Light sweet and quite bitter. Under medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Quite drinkeable but not really any kind of IPA.

Ok+
