From Aug 2006

Poured from 12oz bottle a ruddy gold with a very small head of foam that dissipated very quickly. Just a very fine broken layer is left after a very short period of time.

The smell most obvious to me is of caramel sweetness.

The taste has notes of the caramel mentioned in the smell and there's some grainiess and earthiness that makes it quite the unusual tasting Pale Ale for me. I'm kind of mixed on how I feel about this one so I can't recommend it after this one sample.

12 oz bottle from Bert’s Better Beers. Used a pint glass. Light carbonation. Little to no lace. Nose is malt with a biscuit type aroma. The malt flavor is balanced well with a Cascade like hop. Lighter in body. This APA isn’t going blow your hair back but… there are no major flaws and it is a respectable brew.

This Pale Ale poured a medium yellow colour with a nice, big, bright white head. Slightly cloudy when held up to light. To the nose there are scents of hopps, juniper/ spruce, grass and dough. Slight spice aswell. First taste was slightly sweet with a good dose of hopp flavour. Lightly bodied with flavours of spruce, spice and lemons. Finish is bitter and flavours of hopps last forever.

Overall Impression: This is a pretty solid Pale Ale, a beer I've enjoyed a few different times in the past, but not for a while. Old rating seems to demonstrate a like but not love for this one, could use an update though.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear amber color with lots carbonation, a large head with better than average head retention and lacing. Aroma is floral hops with a citrus bite. Taste bitter citrus hops with a resinous finish. Very slight caramel and pear as well. Medium bodied,

Bottle from Sondra. Color is sort of copper amber - but it changes with light and aspect. The white head didn’t last long. Bready aroma backed by a hint of bitter. Flavor is more than a hint of bitter. It’s roasted malt with citrus and grassy hop. Very tasty. Balanced, maybe even "perfectly" so. Finish is neither sweet nor dry, and there is a citrus nuance. Nice APA. No pretensions to grandeur, but it tastes good.

Bottle. Pours a light amber with an inch of off-white head. Lots of citrus and pine in the nose. Malts and hops nicely balanced... I prefer less malt, but this is a good example of balance.
