Shiner 100 Commemorator is a rich and robust brew that is a fitting tribute to our legacy of 100 years of handcrafting stylish and flavorful beers. Commemorator is a bold style that would have been very familiar to Kosmos.
One of the highlights of the Bavarian brewing year is the rollout of strong beer or starkbier, developed by monks as “liquid bread” to sustain them through the Lenten season. Commemorator is brewed in that Old-World tradition and embodies the German-Czech heritage Shiner has proudly stood for since 1909.
This 17 % original extract dark lager is a blend of two row Munich and Caramel 60 malt mildly spiced with Bavarian Hallertau Tradition and Spalter Select hops to allow the toasted caramel flavor to predominate.

bottle - Pours clear amber with a very thin head. It has a mild caramel malt aroma. The taste is sweet toasted caramel malt and just a touch of dark fruit, maybe figs. It’s alright but below average for the style and quite unmemorable.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly's, 4/21/09

Aroma: Nice caramel nose, grainy, bready, and a little brown sugar
Appearance: Clear amber color, medium off-white head
Flavor: Malty, taste like it smells mostly, not a lot of hops
Palate: A little thin, mildly sticky, kinda dry
Overall Impression: A decent beer, it does taste a lot like Shiner Bock with a little more flavor.

Courtesy of kiefdog. Pours clear copper with gold edges and thin off white head. The aroma is somewhat full with roasted malts, crystal malts, a touch of caramel and grains. The taste is pretty bright with roast malts to sweet malts then crystal malts and caramel. To follow up those notes is a dose of lager yeastiness. I get a bit of metallic twang in there as well.

12 oz bottle. Filtered ambery brown-orange color. Sweet malty aroma, pretty mild. The taste is sweet ant malty as well, but pretty thin and drinkable for the style. Decently crafted, well balanced...but something just lacks in the body and flavor. Crisp and enjoyable enough, but doesn’t have the rich malt and yeast depth of a true Doppelbock. Good for the $5.99 a six-pack price. Drinkable but certainly not a good example of the style.

12oz bottle-pours a foamy rich light tan head and copper color. Aroma is medium malt, medium fruit, yeasty, hint of earthy hops. Taste is husky/medium malt-caramel/some cocoa, medium fruit, yeast, secondary earthy hops. Medium body. Thanks to armock for the trade with Joe-jwc215 and me.

Pour is a copper with a small white head. Aroma has notes of caramel and roasted malts. Flavor is again caramel and malts but everything is too light. I expect a good dopple to be heavy with a lot of dark fruit. This has none of that. Good as a bock but overall poor as a dopple.

Pours with a largish off-white head over a clear brown body. Aroma of caramel, corn, huskiness, toffee and light spiciness. Taste is husky with diacetyl and DMS, tons of caramel sweetness as well. Smooth-ish mouthfeel with light carbonation.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a medium creamy light tan head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is a sour malt with raisin and caramel. Decent lacing on the glass. The taste is a sour fruit and caramel with a metallic finish. Not too much going on with this one.
