Bottled in October 1998. 12 oz bottle generously given to me by beastiefan2k. Pour is a murky brown with copper, with a smallish light tan head. Very unfiltered looking. Aroma is brown sugar, some fruit sweetness and caramel malt. Taste is sweet malt, some apple, honey, and grassiness. The fruit sweetness is the main story. Palate is unfiltered, medium bodied, lingering cloying sweet in the finish. This held up well. Interesting, thanks Eugene.

Bottled - vintage 1998. An unclear dark golden beer with an off-white head. The aroma has notes of over ripe fruits and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, alcohol, and over ripe fruits, leading to a dry alcoholic finish. Thanks CaptainCougar for coming to Denmark and bringing this.

Hazy amber with a fairly large beige head. Aroma had fairly ripe fruits, rubber and toasted malt. Flavour had toasted malt, overripe fruits, malt and caramel notes. Finished sourish and a bit oxidized.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of CaptainCougar. Vintage 1998. Cloudy and opaque reddish amber with an off-white head. Fat, cheesy aroma. Solid body, tart and oxidized fruits with notes of blood and metal. No real bitterness. Over the top I’m afraid. 300809

Figures I haven’t rated it yet. I did not take very good notes. So I’ll just say this. We all know that Brimstone Big was a strong, sweet, soft barley wine with a big alcoholic finish. I had it fresh, I had it with a little age and having tasted it again recently I can confirm that it is still holding up well. It’s very soft, but also chewy. There is only minimal oxidation (wax cap). The malts are therefore still quite thick, but retain their brightness and smoothness. The alcohol, if anything, seems to be toned down a bit now. It’s still beautiful, if you’ve got any stashed away.

October 1998 12 oz bottle courtesy of Degarth. The label states that it improves with age up to 10yrs. Year nine is being sampled with the cap coming off with a solid ‘pop’ and instant odor of red grapes, red wine and olives. It pours a cloudy brown with dull orange edges and big frothy tan head that lasted a couple of minutes. Big “in your face” aroma with red wine, red and black grapes, olives, over ripe red delicious apples, a bit of yeast and behind that is a faint barleywine dark fruitiness. The above average carbonation allows the flavors to light up the taste buds initially with HID arc brilliance illuminating red wine, red grapes, olives, raisin, dates and apple flavor notes. It becomes more tart beyond midway and into the finish along with some oxidation. Body seemed a tad thin.

Sweet, fruity aroma. Flavor is sweet with brown sugar. Very light fruit, some plum. No hop presence at all. Very smooth. It lacks complexity but has great flavor. RBSG 2007.
