Carraig Dhubh is a rich luxurious porter brewed with bags of chocolate malt. This bold heavy porter is laden with coffee and chocolate tones. The name Carraig Dhubh comes from a large rock off the heads of the local Smerwick Harbour and means Black Rock.

30-08-17 // draft at the brewery, Dingle Peninsula, Ireland. Also couple days later from the bottle. Both were excellent. Deep black beer ,with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, some bitter chocolate, slightly creamy texture, coffee bitter finish. --- Beer merged from original tick of Carraig Dhubh on 30 Aug 2017 at 14:15 - Score: 8. At a tasting, thanks, small creamy bubbly beige head, dark brown color, aroma of toasted dark bread, banana, yeast and plaster, flavor of yeast with coal and dark bread. Much too yeasty and not too good.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks Tom L. Very dark brown. Aroma of chocolate, yeast, overripe fruits. Sweet flavor with chocolate, yeast, mild roast, fruits. Medium-bodied.

Black, slight ruby light through at edges of glass, initial thin beige head that dissipates to no head at all
Aroma of soft roasted malts, dark fruity malts, sweet dark caramel malts
Taste of soft roast, nice dark fruity malts, dark fruity chocolate, touch of brown bread, some blackcurrant, quite complex
Palate - Very soft carb bordering on to flat, a bit thin, smooth bit oily. Finish as main flavour, smooth sweet dark fruits.
Overall - Let down by the body being a bit thin and it was rather flat, but had a really good flavour. Would really like to try this on cask one day

A nice well balanced porter that doesn’t try to do too much or be too complex. Very traditional in all aspects. Would like to see more of a unique approach from this brewer, porter is a style that is very forgiving when making creative additions such as native honey, chocolate, etc.
