Backlog rating from 15/11/14. Pumpkin beers seem to go one of two ways for me, either the brewer wants to make a beer with authentic pumpkin and autumn spice flavours, or wants to make something that tastes like artificially sweet pumpkin pie. Both have their respective virtues and sins. This was more of the authentic route, nicely and tastefully muted and understated with more of a cinnamon highlight than the pumpkin.

Bottle from Hanlon’s Garage, Longford [090115]
Dark copper amber, clear, frothy off white head, some lacing
Aroma of cinnamon, gingerbread, sweet fruity malts, no hops, quite spicy and aromatic
Taste - Cinnamon, spicy, lots of cinnamon, sweet caramel malts, dry spicy perhaps a little aggressive as it dominates the flavour
Palate - Soft carb, medium light body, rather sweet. Finish of heavy cinnamon, sweet malts
Overall - Not a fan of these pumpkin spicy brews. It was OK though and I drank most of the bottle.

Draught at the Headline. Hazy orange Amber with a solid head. Aroma is cinnamon and a little pumpkin. Sweetish malt, medium spiced with a little vanilla. Lovely tangy spiced finish, almost Christmassy.
