Sampled at Gunnfryds Barmy Army New Year’s ticker party 2017. Unclear deep amber body with a small, dense tan head. Strong aroma of caramel malt, dry fruit, vanilla and vinous. Flavor is sweet malt, caramel, dry fruit, oak and warming alcohol with moderate bitterness. Fine body and nice aftertaste. A very solid and tasty brew, not really sensing any Bourbon here, but distinct vanilla and warming, almost boozy alcohol.

Draught at Row 34, 12/10/16.
Clear, bright amber-canteloupe with a small, beige head that quickly recedes to nothing.
Strong sugars in the nose provide caramel and toffee with rich vanilla and softer bourbon spice on the end. Alcohol is certainly apparent, though doesn’t come off too raw, I suppose. Lightly fruity with more wood, vanilla and thick caramel lurking.
Sweet, soft and with very low carbonation, the bourbon character isn’t overdone, and actually the sweet caramel and marshmallow-like vanilla notes outdo the dry/bitter/alcohol aspect here. Not an intensely cloying syrup-bomb like many Bruery beers, but nor is it particularly refined or complex.

Bottle, 75cl. Almost clear in the glass, dark amber in color and with a small, dense, light beige head. Some lacing. The aroma is quite boozy, with oak, vanilla, dried fruits, caramel and toffee. It’s full-bodied, warming and smoothly carbonated, with lots of caramel, dried fruits and toffee. Some bourbon, but mostly it’s oak and vanilla. Lasting boozy, sweet finish with oak and vanilla. Sure a pleasant one, but a bit too boozy I think.170107

Pours slightly hazy dark amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, dried fruits, vanilla, oak and alcohol. Taste is heavy sweet and light to medium bitter with a long warm, vanilla, oak, caramel and dried fruity finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bourbon and oak nose, caramel underneath. Hazy rust, slow building thick yellow head, nice lace. Bourbon, coconut, cherries, caramel. Brief appearance of candy cane, maybe juniper. Medium body, easy carbonation, downright quaffable. Alcohol well concealed, complex, not overly bourbony. Man, I do love a good barleywine in January.
