A smooth, well balanced and fruity beer. 1909 Pale Ale is the Tenth beer in our celebrated Past Masters series, which sees long-lost recipes revived from our famous brew books.
Every single afternoon since 1845, the Fuller’s brewing team has diligently written out the ingredients of the day’s brews - and the Past Masters series is a great example of why we do it. Better with age As a bottle conditioned beer, 1909 Pale Ale contains sediment that allows the flavours to develop up until the moment the bottle is opened. This beer should, therefore, be stored upright in a dark place, and poured carefully when served for the best possible results.

(Bottle) Dark amber colour, slightly hazy, with frothy tan head. Fruity nose with dried apricots, banana bread, honey and orange peel. Fruity, malty taste with notes of dried apricots, banana cake, orange peel, honey and a gentle spicy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, quite sweet. Alcohol fairly well hidden. Tasty and harmonious. Very nice.

Bottle at home. Pours deep, semi-opaque golden with a white head. Nose is intense caramel, toffee, hay, honey and herbal touches. Taste is sweet upfront, showing honey, booze, hay and a lot of caramel, rounded off by herbal, earthy hops, but these are not too overwhelming. Closes with a sweet finish, has a medium body and soft carbonation.

16/9/2023. Bottle at the Vojens GP beer share. From Fullers online store. Pours clear bright golden copper with a frothy off-white head. Aroma is hoppy, treacle, syrupy, malt, toffee, yeast. Heavy sweetness with moderate bitterness. Medium to full body, smooth and slick, average to soft carbonation. Pretty decent but surprised how sweet it was.

Bottled (from Systembolaget Umeå). Orageish amber colour, mediumsized off-white foamy head that leaves good lace. Aroma is peach, some floral, mild toffee and some apricot and wooden notes. Flavour is peach, apricot, wood, not too sweet and quite floral too. Rather smooth and actually easy to drink. Hides the abv rather well.

500ml bottle. Orangey gold colour, bubbly white foam head and aroma of molasses, orange fruity, blossom, candy. Taste is sweet, malty, molasses, caramel, biscuit, fruity, with orangey citrus and mellow bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, sweetish fruity light bitter finish. Quite drinkable.

Bottle from Fuller's online shoppe. It pours lightly hazy deep orangey - blonde with a medium frothy off-white head. The aroma is sweet, floury bready malts, biscuit, sticky iced bun, donut, raisin, sultana, cereal, marmalade and s touch of spice. The taste is dry, toothy, bitter - sweet, rich depth of malt, bready malt, baked goods, cakey vibes, brioche, nougat, raisin, sultana, fruit cake, spicy, cereal, nutty, marmalade sandwiches, earth and some boozy warmth through the drying finish. Medium - fulsome body and moderate, frothy carbonation. Good depth of flavour to it. An interesting and quaffable strong pale.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - clear amber with a slightly off-white proportionate head. Nose - red apple, ripe orange, going into marmalade. Taste - more marmalade with tinned fruit salad notes. Brown bread backdrop. Palate - medium bodied, rich and tangy through the middle. A fresh finish considering the ABV. Overall -very nice. Shouldn't this be in the ''Strong Ale - English'' style.
