A demon's been wreaking havoc in our fermenting tank for quite some time.
He's now resting his tired soul on Pedro Ximenez Sherry barrel chips.
His wrath will be unleashed, well... When he'll be in the mood.

Bottled, dnicolaescu! Black with coarse beige head. Tart plum brandy and licorice up front. Mid sweet with medium-full body and well rounded mouthfeel. Dates and brown sugar, licorice and caramel. Warming finish with ouzu and slivovic. Rich, harmonious and interesting.

--- Beer merged from original tick of Koschei on 07 Jul 2017 at 13:59 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 9 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 8. Original review text: Bottle at home. Pitch black pour with a tall fine-grained tan head that is slow to rise to the surface. Notes of cherries, sweet sherry, chocolate, roasted malts, smoke, ash, a bit of licorice. The sherry is subtle and nicely integrated. Full body, medium carbonation, soft, smooth texture and a roasty bitter-sweet finish. Bottle shared at the July THT. Pitch black pour with a thin tan head. Notes of chocolate, smoke, roasted malts, dark cherries. Really nice classic Rusian imperial stout. 4.1/5

SEP-2018. Draft at BCBF 2018 (batch 2?). Smells like plastic. Tastes like a good imply kept in a plastic container. Kochei is dead. 4-4-4-3-10=2,5.

APR-2018. Batch 02/Help. Opaque black, espresso head. Smells nice - dark sugars, smooth dark milky chocolate, some heat, but... there's a kind of damp wood or molded barrel all over the malts. The taste is medium sweet, balanced by a good amount of boozy pungent bitterness, but the there's that moldy note again. Nice full easy drinking mouthfeel. Too bad, the chips seem to have spoiled the batch. 6-4-7-4-14=3,5.

DEC-2017. Same batch #1. Pitch black, dark espresso head. The aroma is full of cooking chocolate, cocoa candy, molasses, vanilla, , quite a bit of wood and some chlorophyll. Big intense taste, quite a bit of sticky dark roast malts as well as dark fruit, balancing alcohol. The bitterness has a bit too much of woody tannins to it. Still, a great Romanian Russian stout. 7-5-8-4-15=3,9.

JUN-2018. BOTTLE 33 CL. Batch 001 Cyka. Pitch black, dark espresso head. Rich and smooth dark malt aroma, sweet chocolate syrup and molasses, dried smoky prunes, spicy notes of nutmeg and clove, a little burnt rubber there too. The taste is onto the same chocolaty dark fruit goodness, sweet but in a pleasant non-sugary way, just the right amount of alcoholic burn, some soothing bitterness in the after taste. Looks like an all around winner to me. 8-5-8-5-17=4,3
