Black Butte³ is described as a delicious equation of Deschutes Imperial Black Butte Porter aged in Black Butte Porter Whiskey casks from Bendistillery. The result is a tantalizing libation of bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, caramel, oak that is set upon a slightly smoky, roasted finish. Black Butte³ is 90% oak aged so be prepared for an aggressive beer that should age gracefully. Black Butte3 will be for sale at $25 for a waxed dipped 22-ounce bottle.

Dark brown. Thin head. Big barrel aroma, goes well with the fruity depths of the base beer. Well-balanced. The base is big, flavoursome, complex, and then the treatment is very good here.

Poured from 500mL bottle (bottled 10/02/2024). Very dark brown with minimal beige head. Woody whiskey forward with soft dark sugars and feint cocoa, easy drinking.

500mL bottle. Pours black with a small beige head. Whiskey barrels, roasted malts, and a touch of cocoa on the nose. Flavour has roasted malts, molasses, cocoa -- all well-integrated with the whiskey barrels. Great malts and great barrels. Fantastic.

Capped 500 from Tavour. Pours dark brn/blk with a slight tan smear. Aroma of chocolate and whiskey. Nearly full bodied. Smooth. Not dry but not very sugary. Bitterness from burnt malt and heat. Lots of whiskey and chocolate. Slight burn in the gullet but not so much in the mouth.

Bottle. Very dark brown almost black. Medium head with nice lace. Aroma was complex notes of vanilla, fruit cake. Taste was thick, vanilla, sweet up front with a dried fruit finish.

Aromas are roast, dark malt and black patent. Flavors are similar to nose, sweet, add in a bit of cocoa and coffee. Too much molasses for me. Otherwise not bad.

Bottled June 11th 2020. Bought at Liquor Shed in Casper.
Pours a really dark brown or...light black. Take your pick. Not much foam but what's there seems to be long lasting. For so little foam, the lacing is not shabby.
The smell is cocoa, big surprise, chocolate, and a huge nose from the whiskey. Whew. Vanilla seems to always come through for these big, barrel aged beers.
Cocoa taste with a little milder taste of the whiskey than I got in the smell. A hint or 2 of smoke, charred is perhaps a better descriptor. Kind of sweet but definitely not overly. Vanilla, some heat from the alcohol but I wouldn't call it a burn.
Close to full bodied, this is one very impressive sipper. I imagine that when it was fresh, it would not be as smooth as it is. Oh, I forgot to mention that it is smooth? Yeah it is. Relatively speaking.
I will revisit.

Bottle/Fest. A- Cocoa, faint roast. A- Black color, dark liquid, brown head. T- Cocoa, boozy, subtle wood. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- Lots of booze and cocoa but not much else. Didn't feel it was very complex. Would've been disappointed if I spent $25 for a bomber of this. Just doesn't meet Black Butte expectations, especially compared to the anniversary variants of this. Still good though.
