(Bottle, Delirium Café, Brussels, 26 Oct 2014) Dark ruby colour with frothy, pinkish beige head. Fruity sourish nose with caramel, cherries and red fruit. Fruity, slightly tart taste with notes of cherries, almond, caramel, red fruit and a sweet and sour finish with a balanced bitterness. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and fruity with a balanced acidity making it fairly complex. Quite nice.

Bottle Pours very deep and dark red . Good white foam . Smell is superintense and sharp cherry-extract ( think of lindemans, but even more extreme ) . Taste is very sharp cherrys . Cherry to the extreme , candy-like . Touch of sourness. rather dry .Sweet , Feels very sugary . Ok tastewise ( for 2 sips ) but the scent is something hard to pass by for me ...

Draught sample, smallish head, very cloudy dark red colour, aroma of artificial and sour cherrie and some candy, frutiy, artificial cherry flavour, quite swet and nearly cloying, with a suprisingly strong berry sourness. Drinkable but still feels too much like an alcopop.

Draught sample at Beers 2014 expo. Nice deep red color with a pink head. Sugary aroma of cherry Hubba Bubba bubblegum, some marzipan and a bit of alcohol. Sweet sugary flavor with cherry Hubba Bubba and a bit of alcohol. Really sweet, but still OK and not too boozy for 8.5%.

Sweet cherry beer based on the Barbe d’Or and a typical representative of the new trend of heavy, sweet cherry beers based on top-fermented Belgians, as is popular in especially Wallonia and France nowadays. Dirty pink, stable, mousse-like foam, colour a dark ruby red, darker than for example their Echt Kriekenbier. Aroma of cherry and blueberry jam, bit artificial, elderberry syrup, raisins, sour cream, hint of nutty malt. Taste sugary sweet, cherry candy, round and mellow, all built on a bready maltiness and more or less balanced out by a sourish, lemon-like hint, finish reveals some mild grassy hops. Never been a fan of this genre but this one is better than average.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours extremely darkly ruddy with a transient beige, pinkish?, head. Aroma of ripe cherry, though not the sour scharbiekse type. Med body, more or less. Flavor is slightly tart cherry. Again, not the most sour, but adequate for the job. I’m really liking this.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 9/30/2015. Pours crystal clear very dark reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense pink head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big tart cherry, cherry skin, blackberry, red grape, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with big tart cherry and fruity yeast presence with moderate sweetness; and good strength. Taste of big tart cherry, cherry skin, blackberry, red grape, herbal, straw, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of fruity tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart cherry, cherry skin, blackberry, red grape, herbal, straw, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and big robustness of tart cherry fruits and fruity yeast ester flavors; with a good sweetness/tartness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very slick, moderately syrupy, and lightly acidic mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an damn nice Belgian kriek. All around great robustness, balance, and complexity of tart cherry fruit with moderate fruity yeast ester notes; and very smooth to sip on with the fairly balanced tartness. A very enjoyable offering.
