23/IV/17 - 75cl bottle @ Zythos Bier Festival 2017 (Leuven) - BB: n/a (2017-505) Thanks to kraddel for sharing today's beers!
Where to start? I rated this, because it's a new beer, and I've rated all new beers that were available at the festival. When poured, I asked Jef what the purpose was of making the beer green. To which he replied: it's for St. Patrick's Day! Uh, ok. So we're dying the beer green, because it's something that is done in Irish pubs all over the world. And nothing more. Weird stance. When asked what was in the beer, they refused to tell me, and as I can read below, many others with me. Reason? "If we tell how we did it, next year everybody will have a green beer at the festival!". Uh, yeah, sure. Cause brewers are idiots and they can not think of ways to colour a beer green themselves? So, we can safely conclude that the whole green thing, is nothing more than a gimmick. A strange thing to see from a brewer, who only last year claimed on national television that new craft brewers have no respect for tradition or balance, and keep experimenting without knowing what they are doing. Well, I guess Glazen Toren has lost the pedals themselves... Anyway, on to the rating.
Clear bright green beer, creamy light green head, pretty stable, non adhesive. Aroma: bit hoppy, grassy, lots of yeast, sweet, bit spicy, banana. MF: very lively carbon, medium body. Taste: some citrus, bit sourish, hoppy touch, almonds, yeast, banana. Aftertaste: more of the same thing. Balanced but boring. The green colour isn't going to change that one itty bit.
