Unclear brown with a foamy head. Smoke, buckwheat, roasted malt, burnt dark breadcrumbs, lemon zest, toffee, licorice, minerals, salt. Smoky umami, salty, roasty bitterness, slightly sourish. Light bodied, watery texture, soft carbonated, dry roasty smoky bitter sourish finish. A very nice brewpub Rauchbier, very flavorful, lacks however in body, but still tasty! Happy that I bought that 1l crowler, it was emptied quite quickly.

Süßlich rauchiger Antrunk, der ein wenig mehr Malzkörper vertragen könnte. Milde konstante Herbe, leicht steigende Würzigkeit. Wenn das Bier nur vollmundig wäre... 9/10/7/6/9/8

(swing top bottle) Hazy, brown colour with a copper shine and a short and tanned foamy head. Distinctively smoky dark malty aroma with notes of bread crusts and a whiff of chocolate. Moderately sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a smooth carbonation. Dark and smoke-malty taste with bready notes (indeed Pumpernickel), also hints of cacao, liquorice and shades of mocha; a bit slim but still flavourful malty and mildly smoky finish with a tinge of hoppy bitterness. Aromatic and moreish brew. 31.V.12

Bügelverschlußflasche: Murky brown, hazy, rather quickly collapsing loose off-white head, sweet dark-malt and woodfire-like smoke in the nose, traces of vhocolate, too; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied; aromatic hops show up in the slightly lingering dark-malty and - reduced - smoky finish. An unexpected gem....

1l-bottle bought at the brewery. Bottle looks awesome, like something special. Beer in the glass very dark, almost black, nice head. Wonderful smoky aroma, nice bacon notes. Starts intense malty-smoky, some chocolate, a bit dry, also some light bitter notes. Finish is softer, not as smoky as the beginning, almost a bit washy. Smoky notes again in the aftertaste. Finish could be more intense and with more character, but still a nice beer!
