Bottle at RB London Meet. Hazy orange color, small white head. Fruity, hoppy, woody aroma. Medium-bodied. Orange jam, citrus, sweetish hoppy IPA. Belgian dipa. Ok.

The follow-up to Plato’s Cave, upping the ante in terms of hoppiness and strength. Irregularly shaped, moussy, off-white, stable head over a cloudy orangey peach blonde beer. Powerful aroma mixing American hop character with Belgian yeast traits: moldy orange, grapefruit, pine resin, lemon zest, soggy white bread, stale sweat, mandarin, green banana, biscuit, kiwi, unripe melon, gherkin, gin. Estery onset, sweet orange, banana and passion fruit notes with soft gooseberry sourishness, softish carbo, supple and slightly oily body, biscuity and bready malt middle while esters continue only to be halted by an extremely powerful, long, drying, resinous, peppery and deeply (if not harshly) bittering hop finish, yielding a wave of grapefruit- and pine-like aromas retronasally, while clear warming but otherwise well-placed alcohol shows up in the end and a thin remnant of juicy caramelly malt sweetness still pierces through after swallowing. Very powerful, interesting beer and a lot more successful than Plato’s Cave as far as I am concerned: this is still essentially a ’Belgian IPA’ in its yeasty character, but at the same time it has the boldness of an uncompromising American DIPA, much more than any other Belgian IPA I had so far (ignoring Shark Pants, Struise’s collab with Three Floyds, but this was hardly a ’Belgian’ IPA in terms of style, of course). The new Brabant beers are not all pure gold in terms of technical execution, many of them have flaws (overly phenolic, no head or carbo, gushing etc.), but this one hits a sensitive spot with me and at least this guy has the guts to try out these ’international’ beer styles, we need more of this kind of audacity in Belgium. Big cheers to monsieur Magerat!

23/04/2016 - sample glass shared with the BE RB crew @ZBF2016. Hazy light orange, small head. Lots of fruits in the nose, some yeast very nice. Taste is very full, thick, but way too bitter for me.

Sampled at Zythos 2016. Thnx for sharing, everyone ! Pours unclear blonde, small white head. Smell is sharp, very fruity. Taste is sharp, very ’green’ hops, very intense, and a bit boozy.

Muddy orange body. White head. Strong aroma of orange, hops, caramalt, ... Heavily bitter, moderately sweet. Finding out whether it is in balance and I would say yes, but still on the edge.

Sample @ Zythos’16, courtesy of and shared with the RB Belgian crew.
