Two yeast strains were used to create this unique Belgian-style ale. The first, a Saison yeast, establishes the flavor foundations of a classic Belgian-style ale. The second, our house strain of Brettanomyces yeast, contributes myriad flavors including pear, apricot, graham cracker, and bread crust. A portion of Interlude is aged in red wine barrels, which imparts a distinctive vinous, plum character and a dry, almost tannic, finish.

Aromas are wine and sour Brett. No head retention. Flavors are sweet tart with a little bit of bitterness. Not a bad beer. Good body nice finish.

Holy cow, this is killer beer! With an aggressive pour, I get a small to medium sized, cream colored head that soon settled out and no lace. Color is a hazy apricot. Aroma is fantastic, literally, with yeast, Brett, malt, wine fruitiness, caramel. Flavor is like aroma and has the acid from the yeastoids and gas to cut through the sweet malts and residual sweetness of the wine barrels along with the bitterness of the hops and yeast. Complex. Body is very good and too the carbonation. Finish is like flavor and includes alcohol warming. Would be good both before and after a great meal.

Threes, Brooklyn draught: pours reddish. Aroma is woody and winey... bretty, earthy and funky. Taste is tart, fruity and woody. Nice notes of wine and cherries. Complex, complicated, con-other words. Quite good.

Pizzeria Paradiso, Georgetown tap ($9): Pours red with little head (well, they poured mine really full). Aroma is cherry, yeast, funk, wood, and sugar. Taste is lightly sour, but a few notches above minimally so. There is some sweetness intermixing, so it is kind of like mixing sour and sweet cherries, but still having the beer tastes dominate. The finish is really woody and so is the aftertaste. I am like this.

Taster pour at NH Brewfest. Appearance is hazy, dark yellow/slightly orange with a tiny ring of white head. Aroma is strong funky yeast with a hint of wine. Taste is tart like overripe fruit, with light wine. Palate is medium bodied with thick texture, average-to-lively carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, it's certainly funky and I give them credit for not overwhelming the beer with the wine barrels. It's well crafted but am not a huge tart fan so this isn't for me.

Pours a rich copper from a tap. Big funky sour apple aroma and flavor, rather bretty, a little barnyard. Pretty good beer.

Tap at Churchkey into a snifter showing hazy honey with sparse white foam. The nose shows leafy eucalyptus or aloe. The palate is lightly carbonated and fully bodied. Medium tart with the same leafy eucalyptus or aloe flavors with a light mint profile. Wow, this was very unpleasant.

Thank you Mathieu87 & PriorL! 750 ml. bottle sampled @ “Epic beer Tasting 2016”. Dark orange, little head. Nose is dull metallic orange, grainy, big sweetness. taste is sweet orange peel, bit metallic, candy, overly sweet, big sugar, improved a bit over time, got more orange peel, overall largely a big slab of sweetness. Body is fizzy & metallic. Another Allagash beer where I don’t entirely the love. Didn’t get the French oak & brett, brett is lost in the sweetness.

750ml bottle, 2014 vintage. Pours reddish orange with a small white head. Aroma of ripe fruits, vinous notes, bretta, oak, wood, hints of vanilla and berries. Taste is smooth, sweetish and vinous with some oak, bretta, vanilla, wood, toffee and ripe fruits. Finish is smooth, sweet and vinous with some funky bretta, farmyard, ripe fruits, toffee, caramel and yeast. Pretty sweet but quite good.
