Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. 2066 best before date! Nearly black. Halo, and film of lasting, tan head. Nose has dark, earthy cocoa bean. Lots of dark berry fruit. Woody coffee bean. Soft, savoury smoke. Lots of ripe vine fruit. Some blackcurrant. Taste is woody and dry, with fruity, brett tanginess. Rich, fruity, smooth mouthfeel. Bit of booze. Soft fizz. Fruity, tangy, bretty, woody bitter finish. Smooth, and very tasty.

Mother Kelly’s. Keg. Opaque black - brown beer, tidy and bright tan head. Palate is smooth as are the dark malts, traces of dark chocolate and malt cream. The brett is nicely judged and not overdone, adds a nice contrast of medium funk. Light finish. One of the better recent beers from this now sour obsessed brewery.

Keg at the Hanging Bat. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aromas of sour coffee, brett funk, faint roast. Taste is more of the same. Fruity finish. Doesn’t drink to the strength at all.

Keg at the kings arms. Opaque black coloured pour with a lasting whispy tan head. Aroma is big bitter black liquorice, funk, tangy apple, woody, burnt ends, little meaty, bretty funk. Flavour is composed of bitter and tangy black toasted grains, liquorice, tangy green apple, little pineapple funk. Palate is medium full bodied, tangy, moderate carbonation, rounded woody finish. Hides the abv very well.
