The Flemish Ardennes also have their own wheat beer. On the nose, this cloudy wheat beer smells of citrus, coriander and other herbs, with a refreshing bitter-sweet flavour and subtle bitterness in the finish. You can taste the sun in your glass. The perfect beer for a sunny day or for a pleasant daydream.

19/IX/14 - 25cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ my parents in law's place - BB: 12/XII/14 (2014-1014)

Little cloudy beige beer, irregular white head, unstable, dissipates quickly, non adhesive. Aroma: bit sweet, malty, some caramel even, lots of coriander, sourish. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: sourish start, bit sugary, orange peel, lemony touch. Aftertaste: sourish, bit lemony, malts, little bitter, coriander, pretty sourish, orange peel. Although not listed as an ingredient, I cannot believe there's not orange peel in this one. (Also: Belgian law does not force the listing of ALL ingredients, I think malt is the only one that's legally required to be mentioned on the bottle.)

Classic Hoegaarden clone since 1993. Medium thick, snow white, sticky head and cloudy yellow blonde colour; bit soapy and spicy smell, lots of coriander and curaçao, soft wheat sourishness, refreshing with a fluffy mouthfeel, citrus peel coming through nicely. I prefer this over Hoegaarden.

Draught @ CafΓ© Rose Red, Brugge. Pours cloudy amber with airy but stable white head. Clear aroma of fruit, yeast and grain. Sourish flavour of grain and citrus, with sweetish, estery and malty notes and bitter, hoppy touches. Mild, estery and bitter aftertaste. Lively carbonation. Quite refreshing and okay but nothing really special.

Bit watery Belgian witbier. Has the usual wheatiness and spices, just a bit more plain.

25cl bottle @ home. Hazy pale yellow color, medium sized white head that leaves good lacing. Smell malts, slightly sweet-bitter. Taste lightly citrus and lightly some fruit-bitterness. Low body, low to medium carbo.

Draught at the Belgian Beer Festival in Brussels, 2005. A wit with a slight tart, acidic ring to it (coming from added carbonic acid, I found out later). This gives it something of the flavor of a not-so authentic lambic. Not bad, but needed a little more of that taste, as it was rather bland otherwise, typically sweet and spicy.
