Can, 0.50l. Clear pale golden color with large frothy white head, fair lacing and sparkling appearance. Aroma is grainy, grassy, mild skunky and dusty. Taste starts light sweet grainy and mild biscuity, following is grassy, mild citric and papery, mouthfeel is crisp and dry, while finish is unpleasantly bitter. Light body, thin texture and lively carbonation in palate. Not the worse, but quickly forgettable...

The ’regular’ and - at least in the Lidl supermarkets in Belgium - cheapest representative of this Argus pale lager brand, which is explicitly made for this supermarket chain; this site mentions Nemo Namenlos, whereas Untappd points at Frankfurter Brauhaus as the culprit... The can does not reveal its obscure origins either, it only states that this is "made in Germany" simply because it is imposed by the legislator. As far as I’m concerned, the legislator should be much more concerned about both the actual brewery any beer is brewed at, and the ingredients that go in it, but that is another discussion. Anyway, this one has a medium sized, bubbly, snow white, very regular head which dissipates quickly in the middle but retains on the edges, and a cristal clear, very (and I mean very) pale straw blonde robe with almost greenish hue, perturbed by strings of lively fizz. Aroma consists mainly of sourish, soaked grains and dito chicken corn, an unpleasant and persistent hint of molten plastic, old socks, something rotting grass-like and a vague whiff of unnatural ’can iron’, but otherwise remains very neutral. Same story in the mouth: very little happens, some grainy sourishness as well as cornmeal-like sweetishness but both restrained (read: diluted), with fizzy, minerally carbonation; this thin graininess will be your only companion for the rest of the can, ’adorned’ with a metallic hint somewhere and something flour-like in the finish, where a faint echo of grassy hop bitterishness is identifiable. I tasted this alongside its ’Pils’ brother which is made by Martens in Belgium and this one is clearly much lighter and more greenish in colour, far less (corn) sweet in aroma and taste and a tad less hoppy (if the rather charged word ’hoppy’ is still allowed in this dreary context). If I had to chose - and hopefully I never will - I’d go for the Pils version, if only because it has just a bit more body and at least lacks that awful smelly socks- and melting plastic-like odour that kept accompanying the Lager version. Belgium beats Germany here, in a field where the latter are usually better... Enough said, onto some or other ale, any ale will do after this.

F: big, white, not very good retention. C: pale gold, clear. A: malt, grassy, cooked vegetable /DMS/, papery, hint of honey. T: malt, sweet grassy, some bitterness, watery, cardboard, corn sugar, papery, light body, normal carbonation, beside Argus lager there is written on the can also German lager but I think is the same because beer from this “Brauerei Nemo Namenlos” brewery, also 4,9% ABV as well, bad brew as expected, 33cl can from Lidl @ Etterbeek, Brussels.

330 ml. can sampled. Purchased @ Lidl. Served very cold. BBF 30.05.2017. Clear sparkling artificial honey golden, patchy soapy white industrial lager head. Nose is massive cabbage combined with cheap cooking oil lager chemical honey sweetness. taste wise it’s a good thing that I sampled this one very cold, its massively watery & sparkling, cold enough its almost a bit like rancid sparkling water, pronounced cabbage in the finish, horribly watery big cardboard & paper in the finish. Insanely thin & watery and whatever notes are here, they are all very unpleasant. Right about what I expected & I suppose you cannot complain given the price. Its very cheap & it has alcohol, I suppose in a way this one hits all the criteria’s for the target audience.
