Bottle at home. Aroma is dark malt, caramel, lots of liquorice, coffee, hint of dark fruits. Flavour is quite sweet, sticky, with a little bitterness in the finish. Body is above medium. A bit of a liquorice overkill, quite sweet and definitely not up to the standards I have for Imperial Porter. That being said, this is a decent brew.

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 20 Feb 2016) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with caramel, black rye bread, chocolate and roasted grain. Malty, roasted taste with notes of caramel, sweet liquorice, coffee and a gentle spicy bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, quite sweet. Interesting and tasty, quite sweet and leaning in the doppelbock direction. Nice one.

Bottle. Black pour. Aroma of sweet malt and caramel. Simple taste of caramel, licorice and malt. De leckere just can’t get it right. Too sweet and simple.

Sampled @ Pint Winterbierfestival Gouda, 2016. Dark brownish color, virtually no head. Smell and taste malts, brown malts, sweetish hint but a malt bitter finish. Not an Imperial porter in any way imo, and not very good. Below par.

On tap @ Arendsnest, sample size, shared with JulienHuxley. Black color. Dense beige head with good retention and a little lacing. Aroma’s: a bit dusty, perfume-y. Retronasal it’s sweet, light drop, some roast, red fruit, dusty. Flavor is rather sweet, zoete drop. Medium bodied. Long finish, roasty, somewhat bitter. OK.

From bottle at Winterbierfestival Gouda 2016. Very dark brown to black with a thin, creamy, slowly diminishing, tan head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty aroma of coffee, chocolate, molasses and cinnamon. Sweet, malty taste of molasses, brown sugar, caramel and nuts, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter, roasty finish. Medium to full body, creamy mouthfeel, flat. Good!

Thank you for sharing people! Sampled bottled @ “Gouda Winterbier Festival 2016”. Dark red amber with little tanned head. Nose is weird plastic notes, heavy umami notes, burned plastic. Taste is massive Belgian plastic notes, very watery weak, watery sugar, candy & herbal notes. Fizzy herbal body. Very weak for the style, total misfire.
