This special lager is brewed at the end of August, with more malt and extra hops. The hops from our own region (Erembodegem) give the beer a nice bitter aftertaste. During the maturing of more than 2 months, the beer has matured naturally and all aromas have developed. Thanks to the natural saturation, the beer has a very fine pearly carbonation like champagne and a nice, dense and stable foam head. The result is a unique, bottom fermented blond beer that distinguishes itself from the sweet dark Christmas beers.

Pours a clear golden with a white head. Aroma of grains, slightly fruity, yeasty and some hops. Decent pale ale, but I had better hopes for this one, it’s not what I seek in a Christmas Ale.

Bottle. Golden color. Clear, but not filtered. Greapefruit overshadows the hops in the aroma. Light flowery hopbitter flavor with grapefruit and a hint of blackcurrant. Very refined flavor, glorious aroma. Delicately balanced. But sadly a rather short finish. Still a very nice beer.

Let’s start off December with Slaghmuylder’s Kerstbier which is a 5.2% Belgian Blonde Christmas beer. It’s a brass color with a thin head and a fruity vinous aroma featuring plums & figs with a sweet bread like malt character. Medium bodied with a sandpaper like carbonation and a dry finish. First you get wine, raisins, plums, some booziness then a dense bready character. The taste that lingers in my mouth is a sweet fruity hit.

Thank you! Sampled 330 ml. bottle @ Kerstbierfestival Essen 2015. Apparently uses a small percentage of corn according to the booklet. A Christmas pilsner is truly an odd thing in Belgium, one of a kind for certain. Clear golden, small white head. Nose is oily, quite metallic, sugar, corn, sweet & oily, touch esters. Taste is oily, metallic, white sugar, sugar, corn,.. Metallic, corn, esters body. Rather dull & not much better than some of the more agreeable pale lagers.

Helder geel bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is licht bitter hoppig en best goed maar niet echt bijzonder. Niet dat het slecht is maar vreemd dat dit een kerstbier is.
