(screw cap bottle, courtesy of Quack-Duck) Hazy, dark brown coloured hue with floaties and a tall and tanned foamy head. Sweet and toasted malty aroma with notes of caramel and a tinge of alcohol. Quite bitter flavour with a moderate malty sweetness, medium bodied with a tame carbonation. Roasty malt character with caramel, dark bread and herbal notes; quite dry and bitter roasty finish with an alcoholic touch. Not as satisfying as some other brews of Rappen Bräu. 25.I.11

Screw-cap bottle (kindly delivered by Stefan!): Amber coloured, hazy ("naturtrüb"), mid-sized stable off-white head; mild to moderate fruity-alcoholic nose with a delicate malty base; light to moderate bitter-sweet flavour, relatively light bodied for a beer of 8.3%; lingering bitter-sweet finish, raisins, caramel and alcohol detectable. Not bad, but a very restrained "Black Horse....."

bottle. Deep brown colour, beige head. Aroma of carmel and chocolate. Full-bodied, malty base, lots of chocolate, caramel and dark dried fruit. A warming touch of alcohol is present, as well as a touch of pleasantly spicy hops. Smooth palate. Liquid Christmas pudding - a delight.
