Thin mouthfeel, sweet malty taste with notes of chocolate and some dried fruit. Not the best in this style.

Pours clear, caramely brown. Extremely big white head that stays very damn stable as well. Smell is very sweet, sugar, earthy, caramel. Taste is also sweet, caramel, earthy. Seems very oxidized, even though its a few months before best by date. Not bad, but a bit too simplistic sweet. Also, very thin mouthfeel.

330 ml. bottle sampled. Purchased @ Willems & Zoon. BBF JUL2016. BIG GUSHER. Deep copper amber, big collapsing tanned head. Nose is hugely metallic, watery with rotting old herbs, stale lavender, touch metallic caramel, not too good. Taste is manageable but far from optimal, heavily herbal, big cloves, metallic, finish is wet leaves, stale kitchen spices,… Overly fizzy & empty. Faint licorice & varnish. Too flawed.

The second beer developed by Johan Brandt’s new brewery, with thick but quickly collapsing, opening, yellowish white head and ’autumn-like’ bronze colour with rusty brown glow, clear but hazy with deposit. Strong aroma of ripe plums, apple sauce, candied figs, tea, chocolate, coffee grounds, nutmeg, dried leaves, clay, dry sherry. Fruity sweetness in the taste, a bit reminiscent of figs in ’jenever’, spicy accents, chocolatey malts but everything is unfortunately drenched in a wry phenolic sauce; in the finish, a grapefruity hop bitterness sets in as well as badly hidden, somewhat astringent alcohol. Flawed.
