You know the expression, "A Velvet Glove and an Iron Fist"? It was coined to refer to a regime that used a soft exterior to hide its punishingly unforgiving nature. This seems an apt description for our Velvet Glove. Its placid appearance and unparalleled smoothness hide the truth; this is one fiendishly strong stout. Rich, chocolaty espresso dominates the flavor profile, with a velvety smooth texture that will haunt your senses.

Bottle at home. I don’t usually comment on appearance, but this beer looks gorgeous with its black colour and thick brown head. The aroma consists of dark roasted malt, chocolate, black coffee, espresso, some dark fruity notes. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet with a moderate roasty hoppy bittersweet finish. Body is thick and full. Wow, lovely rich and thick Imperial Stout, I’d love to drink this one again!

Bottle shared by Brian, thanks! Pours near black with an earthy brown head that starts and remains at the edges. Aroma has earthy dark grains and light roast with a bit of musty chocolate. Flavor has earthy roasted malts and musty chocolate with wet dark grains backing.

(Bottle) Black colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with black coffee, dark chocolate, black rye bread, orange peel, burnt sugar and a touch of tarry smoke. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark chocolate, cacao, black rye bread, espresso, grapefruit, molasses, tar and a generous citric/coffee bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Really tasty and well made. Very nice.

Can split at CBC Covent Garden, thanks to Leighton, 20/11/18. Black pour with a decent tan covering. Nose is charr, spice, umami, dark malts, cocoa powder. Taste comprises dark fruits, mellow roast, chocolate, toffee melt, molasses, light spice. Medium plus body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Low end for the style spectrum and lacking depth for the ABV.

Craft TCR Bottleshare. Thanks to Leighton. Opaque dark brown beer, tidy tan head. Mellow dark malts bring a light dry chocolate tang. Tangy dark fruits. Rich fruits underneath, almost bourbon soaked. Pinch of spice. Light semi dry tangy finish. Quite tangy overall.

Bottle shared in London - picked up in CA. Pours black-brown with a frothy beige head. Certainly aged, some tangy dark berries, chewy chocolate, moderate roast. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish, some further gooey chocolate, dried dark fruits. Good one.
