(Thx! for sharing) Sampled bottled @ Gents Bierfestival 2015. The Rorschach test of beers – everyone that smelled this beer, came up with a different ingredient / description, tea, thyme, five spices, lavender,…. No one got Sichuan peppercorns, odd. Nose is akin to Herbes de Pronvence & Five spices, pepper, some malt & caramel base but crazy heavy on the wild spices. Taste is odd pepper, Herbes de Pronvence, light Five Spices and Spanish Red Pepper powder, dough, candy, caramel, malts, brown sugar… Body is oily, sweet, tad thin. Ridiculous & rather enjoyable. Deserves additional points for originality.

Almost no (cream) head; red-brown beer, faintly hazy. Rosewater/lavender, something out of the bathroom, and ’five spices’. Liquorice and lavender in the mouth. Sweet, slightly roasted/melanoidin touches; bready. Don’t get the pepper. Medium bodied at least, some alcohol. A Belgian dubbel... with lavender flavour??? Everybody seems to get something different here, but lavender being the red herring.

Clear dark brown beer, creamy beige head, pretty stable, non adhesive. Aroma: very floral, soapy, fruity, bit sweet, some caramel. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very spicy, peppery, funky, sweet, some liquorish. Aftertaste: liquorish, spicy, little bitter, mocha, caramel, dried fruits.

Draft. Mahogany beer with a dark cream head. Light spice and caramel aroma with yeast. Spice and caramel flavor with yeast and light fruitiness. Medium bodied. Spice and caramel linger with yeast and light dark fruit.

Tap at The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours very dark orange/amber with a 3 finger off-white Guinness head. Aroma is fruity/peppery. Med body or better. Flavor is nicely darkish malt with a little dark fruit and more pepper. It’s not very hot, but certainly spicy. Quite nice. Finishes towards dry. Not bitter.

On tap at Monkish. Medium brown hued pour with a large and fluffy off-white head. Aromas are malty, clean, light esters, moderately spicy and a touch peppery. Flavors are dry, nice malty and toasty notes, medium esters. Nice peppery spicy backing that pairs well with the dry malty notes. Somewhat earthy. Fuller carbonation with a medium body.
