La Luna Rossa was created with an initial sour beer which underwent 2 years of mixed fermentation (lactic bacteria, brettanomycetes). Then we added cherries for at least 6 months and we blended the new beer with a small part of other beers. La Luna Rossa is an ale that can remember a Kriek or a Flemish Red Ale. It has an extraordinary complexity associated with a strong character. For lovers of this kind of beers it is certainly hard to forget.

Pours a semi-transparent red with pinkish hints that gets a bit hazy on second pour. The thinnest hint of head disappears very quickly. Aroma shows vinegar plus quite strong sour cherries and slight citric notes, with a background of wet wood. It's rather intense but not too deep. Taste is a mix of sweet and sour, both quite strong. Sourness is both lactic and acetic. Notes are of vinegar and sour cherries with light woody hints. Aftertaste is again a mix of sweetness and sourness. Taste is rather intense as the aroma, but again not too deep; feels like vinegar is a bit covering. Medium bodied with the slightest hint of carbonation; smooth mouthfeel. Not very impressed.

Hazy mahogany color. Lots of cherries, oak and vinegar. Malty low carbonation, very acidic, but decent depth with strawberries being a bit more pronounced on the palate. Overall I like this.

Pours hazy pink, some white bubbles on the top. Lots of vinegar and balsamico in the nose, some currants, funky and a bit musty. Light peat. Tastes tart, lots of balsamico, finishing with a burnt caramel note. Acidic. Good one from Italy.

Moyen.
