Our Black IPA fuses speciality malts with a tropical punch bowl of new world hops to deliver a contradictory yet cultured concoction. A classically ‘pale’ aroma and quenchingly fruity palate belies a broodingly dark and deceptive appearance. Can a beer be both ‘black and pale’? Time to consult the Magic 8 Ball.

Draft @ Billie's 2021, shared with Brewver BE crew.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Black colour, large and creamy beige head. Pleasant aroma of fruity and piney hops, with some mild roasty notes in the background. Delightful flavour of luscious hops, with a mildly roasty and hoppy bitterness in the finish. Good stuff!

Can sample at a tasting at Yana's place. Very dark brown. Piney and green hops, slightly vegetal, a bit citric, sweetish, some roast, bitter finish. Pretty nice.

44cl can from hopt.it. Pours black, with fine brown foam. Aroma is coffee, soy sauce. Body is average, like carbonation. Taste is medium-high bitter, but still easy to drink. A little balsamic. Final is fairly short.

Keg at the Southampton Arms. Dark brown colour with a thick creamy golden head. Aroma is lots of pine hops, bit of citrus, orange and grapefruit. Also quite malty, roasty and creamy, bit of chocolate and a whiff of smoke. Texture is very smooth and quite thick. Taste is very roasty, chocolate milk, bit of spice and something burnt. Finish alternates between lingering bitterness and more roasty chocolate maltiness. Really nice.
