We put the Rum in a large barrel and add American roasted and toasted oak flakes. After 3 weeks this mixture is ready to be added to the beer in the bright beer tank. This way we obtain a maximum performance of the used liquor strengthened with the taste of the used oak flakes to enrich our beer.

Fles 33cl thuis. Steenfruit, houttonen, yeasty, lichte rumtonen, zoeten, redelijk zacht, fruitig, wat bloemig. (13-4-2025).

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is heavy on the wood with malt, soft rum, some spicy notes, light sugary fruits. Oaky finish. Flavour is medium sweet and light bitter. Body is medium. More wood than rum-infused, nice.

Smell-weak malt,. weak caramel, weak Belgian yeast. Foam-thin, large in mouth, weak malt, weak hops, weak caramel and weak roast, weak acidic tones. Head is medium-sized, and white in color. Appearance - generic bottle cap, simple label. Cloudy orange color, some sediment inside. From - snifter Price - 3,49 euros for 0.33 l Taste - malt, caramel, sweetness, weak hops, weak alcohol. Drinkable, bit boozy, but lacking something to make this special.

One of many liquor-infused Lazarus beers by Broeder Jacob, bottle from the Carrefour hypermarket of Oostakker near Ghent. Thick, yellowish egg-white, foamy and frothy, papery lacing head, clear and warm ‘old golden’ robe with lively carbonation, lightly misty with sediment. Aroma of dried banana slices, indeed (white) rum but not overly strong, old bread crust, iron shavings, straw, wet oak chips, old cardboard, unripe peach, apple peel, honey, sugar loaf. Sweet onset, red apple, peach and banana, but nothing cloying; lively carbonation, medium full mouthfeel. Cereally and somewhat bread-crusty pale maltiness, bready with a slight metallic edge and a thin line of honeyish sweetness on top – in all, less sweet than expected based on the nose, but doubtlessly this is due to the added rum. This rum effect becomes clear in the finish (old coconut flakes), also in the form of a warming, eventually somewhat astringent booziness, but not before some oakiness and soft floral hops have passed by. In this particular segment, quite an accessible Belgian, with the rum actually better integrated than I was fearing; not drowning in rum, but in a subtle way it creates a ‘sweet and boozy tripel’ effect while this beer is actually less sweet than it seems. Better than expected – especially for a ‘supermarket beer’, so to speak…

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ van Rooij, Culemborg. Dark golden with a white head. Ruma aroma with some white kandy sugar and yeasty fruitiness. Sweet taste with a nice low-bitter finish. Nice one.

33cl bottle (BBF: 2023) from Carrefour market @ in Tervuren near Brussels. F: medium, egg-white, long lasting. C: deep gold, hazy. A: almost the same as in this Lazarus series, fruity, some caramel, bit “woody”, spicy touch. T: medium to full body, vaguely fruity, some caramel, bit woody, almost not rum or only weak, soft carbonation, ok yet nothing memorable at all.
