Wild bitter ale with local Cascade.

A thatched farm with an old horse barn, a handful of goats in the meadow, an orchard with yellow fruit trees behind the house, humid hay stacks in the distance and hop vines in the hedge. Scents of the countryside, an open-hearted temper, a beer without ornaments but with truly honest ingredients: that is Erve, our wild cross between a brett IPA and a saison.

Erve is a rustic, dry and bitter beer, with a notable palate of locally grown Cascade hops that give warm notes of stone fruit and citrus. We use whole hop cones because we love their pure and intense flavours and bitterness. Our wild house culture creates a rural and fruity character that is underlined by locally grown heirloom grains.

Bottle from Pub-up-beershop, Wolvega. Batch #6. Aroma is grain, funk, peppery yeast, hay, fruity notes, grassy hop. Flavour is medium bitter with a bone dry finish. Body is medium. Funky and bitter with a lot going on, very good.

Bottle, thanks Dave! Hazy golden, low offwhite head. Bretty lime and glue aroma. Medium light body, very light sparklies. Nice dry brett notes, citric hops, also a few unfortunate harsh higher alcohols lingering. Vineous, sponge finish.

Bottle from the brewery Webshop, drunk after spackling and mounting Dali lamps. Hazy gold, big lasting head, aroma of citrusy mild Brett and a hint of hay. Really delicious, definitely a hoppy mild farmhouse character. The Brett isn't overwhelming and acidity is balanced. Surprisingly crushable!

(Draught at De Spuyt, Amsterdam, 25 Aug 2022) Hazy golden colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, spicy nose with citrus, hay, bread and some brett. Fruity, spicy taste with notes of bread, hay, herbs, citrus, a touch of brett and a balanced citric/herbal bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and interesting, with a spicy yeast touch. Nice one.

From tap @ Fermentoren. Copenhagen. Probably this batch, not 100%. Poured deep orange in color. Funky and some brett aroma. Quite crisp with some odd woody notes and dryness in finish.

Faint rim over hazy brownish golden beer. Strange aroma as from parsley on vinegar and a very faint lime-hoppy whiff. And Bretts in the finish. More Bretts in the flavour, with a faint sourish background; hints of caramel or brown sugar. Lemonpeel, overripe pear or banana. Light if very slick, not very carbonated. Bit strange, this one. Certainly not bad. Txs to Stef!
