Based loosely on the Smokestack Series’ The Sixth Glass, this abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the “angel's share” of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore.

A super new age quad. A dense redish mahogany body with an active off white head. The nose is engaging, with toffee, cherries, dark berries and a touch of citrus hops. Sweet, easy drinking bourbon leads the taste profile. Not harsh at all. Rich toffee, biscuit malt, candied fruit, cherries and a touch of citrus hops create a rich smooth but still lively blend. A hint of sourness and yeast add to the complexity. Barrel aging that is not overdone. Good one.

Drinking and enjoying this beer, at Bonfol, during the last week-end. A good and solid quad, I smelt a good note of ginger, fruity with generous notes of malt, toffee, smooth and nicely boozy, not unpleasant with a regulat note of hop at the final. 08.09.2020

Bottle. Light brown in color with a light brown head. Aroma is fruity, bread and grains. Taste is tree fruits with spice and bread. Kicks you in the tale with the alcohol.

750ml corked and caged. Dark, hazy brown pour, with a small beige head. Incoming!!!!!!! We have a barrel bomb!!! Whoa, the nose on this is all barrel. Massive notes of Bourbon, wood, vanilla and it’s very very boozy. As it warms more fruit comes through, but man this is woody, and earthy, and loaded with sweet Bourbon barrel notes. Carb is nice, mouth feel is solid. Finish is slightly astringent, medium butter finish, boozy, and fruit with mkr huge barrel notes..if barrel bombs are your thing this is for you.. This is one of the more barrel forward beers I’ve ever tasted. But the base quad is much too lost for my tastes, I can barely tell what the base beer is. Good, not great.

Bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Aroma is Bourbon, oak, vanilla, raisins, malt, caramel, toffee, dried fruits, figs, with a dash of chocolate and pleasant notes of cherries indeed. Flavour is sweet with a slight touch of tartness from the cherries. Some warming alcohol. Body full. Way more subtle and balanced than I expected, and I dig the cherries. Pretty good!

Bottle at Beermalade tasting. Medium body, medium carbonation. Medium sweetness, medium bitterness, med-high warmth, borderline light burn. Medium cherries, nicely fermented. Surprisingly med-light vanilla, more than expected. Pretty perfumey bourbon I assume. Moderate dried fruits too, mostly raisins. The subtle spicy and estery quad character hidden beneath the more assertive wood and bourbon. Overall very good, nuanced, even if a bit too focused on the specials, but more is to be found underneath, subtly. Very good.

2014 vintage. Malty and heavy and slightly syrupy notes, prunes, figs and raisins, some earthiness and hints of vanilla oaky notes. A bit boozy.
