Sweet, roasty and always invigorating, traditional Latin American cafe con leche coffee can be found nearly everywhere in our hometown of Tampa, Florida and serves as the inspiration for our Cafe Con Leche Sweet Stout. The beer is made with bold, strong coffee beans to emulate the most characterful Cuban espresso and lactose, a milk sugar that adds sweetness, body and flavors reminiscent of scalded milk. We've also added cacao nibs to further enhance the satisfying chocolate quality of the beer. Despite it's assertive flavors and full body, our sweet stout is deceptively low in alcohol, making it the perfect accompaniment to a late-morning plate of eggs, bacon and tostadas.

650ml bottle. Jet black colour with late awakening, small to average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing tan head. Roasty, dark malty aroma with intense notes of coffee, roasted coffee beans, hints of toffee, a touch of cocoa, chocolate, vanilla and tobacco. Taste is sweet-ish dark malty, slightly roasty, chocolately, notes of coffee, roasted coffee beans, some toffee, hints of dark chocolate, Nappo, a touch of liquorice, minimally bitter roasty and hoppy counterweight; lingering, sweet-ish, minimally sticky finish.

“Coffee with milk” stout by this renowned Florida craft brewer, one of their countless stouts, bomber from De Caigny. Regularly shaped, moussy, pale yellowish beige, slowly opening but stable head, near-black robe with hazy mahogany-ruddy edges. Aroma of cappuccino indeed, roasted coffee beans, walnuts, toast, ‘fondant’ chocolate, caramel, notes of raw cinnamon, green tea and something very vaguely sulfuric hidden in the background which I suspect is related to the use of real coffee beans. Sweet onset but nothing sticky, dried blackcurrant, fig and raisin aspects, sourish note, soft carb, supple mouthfeel and smooth body – but perhaps not quite as creamy as expected based on the idea and the added lactose. Deeply and pleasantly nutty malt base with toasty and caramelly edges, more coffeeish bitter in the finish, even an impression of raw, green coffee beans so this ingredient is in any case quite prominently featured. Nutmeg-, vanilla- and cinnamon-like accents further adorn a roasty and spicy-hoppy bitter finish but the basic nutty character of the beer remains firmly in place. Very pleasant, enjoyable stout, though I would not have minded a bit less ‘greennes’ from the coffee beans and more creaminess from the lactose.

Tap (Pogromcy, Wrocław). Full of coffee and delicate hint of lactose in aroma. There is in opposite site in taste, more lactose than coffee. Beer is smooth, medium body, light with small bitterness, nice in overall.

Pours virtually black from the bottle. A tan, foamy head fails to linger. Aroma is a mix of chocolate milk and coffee grounds. Very faint berry notes. Taste has strong roasted notes, balanced by a sweetness full of vanilla. Lingering coffee and mineral notes in the aftertaste. Body is to the light side of medium, carbonation is moderate, texture is sticky. Better than most coffee additive stouts, but like all the rest, the lingering aftertaste of yesterday’s old coffee grounds somewhat limits the upward potential.

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a nice, deep rich off-white head, about three centimetres tall. Aroma of coffee, lactose, deep roasted malts, some oak and vanilla and a very subdued but pungent caramelised sugar and almost a molasses type sweetness noticeable in the nose. Medium-bodied; Deep malt and nutty flavours at first with a light soy sauce note and then some good lactose and creamy flavours coupled with a good coffee bite and a dose of alcohol and even a hint of more pungent and earthy tobacco notes near the tail end. Aftertaste shows a good dose of lactose and milk sugars with a bit more caramelised sweetness of toffee along with molasses and a big dose of nuts, earth and more grainy notes - with the oak and vanilla noticeable towards the tail end. Overall, a very nice and mellow stout with a big enough body and subdued flavours that make it quite easy to drink - even in May, but robust and complex enough to be enjoyable throughout. Well done, but not worth searching high and low for by any means. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 09-March-2018 for US$9,89 (didn't see this once in Florida!) sampled at home in Washington a few minutes after returning from a family vacation in Florida on 09-May-2018, exactly two months after purchase.
