Balance! That’s what we were looking for and that’s what we’ve achieved with a round but light beer with a perfect degree of bitterness.
Savour it as an aperitif with friends and tell them how it was born…

Following the relaunch of the brewery in 2003, we have visited many breweries and discussed things with many seasoned or debutant brewers. Memorable visits during which the tendencies for our first beer were chosen: we wanted to produce a blonde beer, with too not strong an alcohol percent, with personality but above all remaining well balanced.

To prevent it from being overly hopped, we had chosen four American hops, coherent between themselves, and subtly dosed. And to give our beer body, we opted for a malt charge of 100% barley malt, without any other cereal, nor any added sugar.

At the end of several months of research, we were finally ready to create a brew in our newly installed brewing room. It took place on 01 May 2004, and Tournay Blonde was born!

750 ml bottle. Clear golden body with a big, dense off-white head. Aroma has pale malt with light spicy yeast. Quite light but balanced in flavor, pale malt, yeast, fruit and spicy. Nothing too complex this but sure drinkable.

Clear medium golden colour, a lot of bubbles, average unstable fluffy white head, mostly diminishing leaving good patchy lacing. Strong fruity aroma, orange, pinapple, soapy, ginger, coriander, herbal hops. Taste medium sweet and below medium bitter, citrusy, spicy (ginger, pepper, coriander). Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, sweetbitter aftertaste, herbal and spicy notes, bit dusty, resh and well-balanced blond, very nice.

Strongish blonde ale, tasted from a 75 cl bottle with cork. Thick, light yellowish head, pure orange blonde, near amber colour, clear but hazy with deposit. Vividly fruity aroma strongly reminiscent of fresh orange, pineapple, flowers, ginger, pepper, apple peel, marmelade, mint and something phenolic. Rounded, sweetish palate with fresh citrus effect, appetizing, strong carbo, mild herbal hop bitterness in the end with a whiff of gin-like alcohol. Well-balanced and tasteful.

Bottle courtesy of a friend. Poured a hazy light amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is yeast, sweet malt. The flavour is medium sweet with an alcoholic sweet malt light hop bitter palate and a lingering light sweet finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

75 cl. bottle from Carrefour shared with several people. The Christmas & New Year selection indeed gets a bit more interesting not just for food but also for beer at the supermarket. There is no BBF indication on the strip for this beer. It pours a hazy, nearly murky orange with a creamy white head. Nose is already a warning since it carries a huge funk note, lots of lemon in it in a lemonade kind of way, light herbal notes, Taste is similar, tart with very little funk unlike the nose, lemon lemonade notes, faint herbs, sweet grains, white sugar, citrus peel, some coriander, touch sweetish,… Touch ticker grainy body. Anyway this one seemed off for me. It is not bad for sure but felt far from intention. I bought this one from the supermarket with no indication of a BBF.
