A speciality in the tradition of the Saxon miners. Strong roasted aromas, a deep black color and a finely balanced hops note make the Black Steiger an experience full of character.

The bottle looks good. The beer in the glass also. It tastes really not schwarzbier-like, too fruity and sweet, too less malty. But nevertheless a drinkable beer.

Bottle. Creamy lightbrown excellent mostly lasting head. Dark red amber colour. Moderate malty aroma. Light bitter flavor with scares roasted notes. Short finish. Oilt palate. Flat carbonated. Not great beer.

Bottle, 4.8%. Very dark brown colour. Light brown head. The flavour starts off sweet, brown sugar. Turns slightly unpleasantly bitter, a bit like pale lager. Perhaps it is malt bitterness. High carbonation. All in all quite palatable.

Big coarse beige head. Dark red barely translucent body. Dry, thin, burnt, vaguely malty aroma with faint fruit notes and touches of rubber. Taste is initially sooty, giving way to burnt chocolate with faint fruit notes. Dry all the way; aftertaste just kind of fades out. It’s a very typical German schwarzbier, but I find them to be too dry and boring to get very excited over. (0.5l bottle.)

High, dirty off-white head, fluffy, over very dark brown beer. Very weird nose, as sweet bread drenched in stock or broth. Also something honeyish, or nectar-laden spring blossoms. Rather burnt, toasted initial taste, followed by some underlying sweetness, including coloured malts. The palate initially lacks everything, empty, but eventually picks up a bitterish aftertaste that is both a bit hoppy and a bit toasted/burnt. Quite light body. A rather average Schwarzbier, promising more than delivering.

Test vom 4.4.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 8,10,10,6,13,10 - 9,35

500 ml bottle, bought in Bier Spezi Hamburg. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Large and lingering greyish tan head, nice lacing. Pleasant moderately roasty aroma, also notes of dark fruits, chocolate, Schwarzbrot and coffee. Very nice flavour of roasted malts perfectly balanced with the hops, not too sweet, notes of coffee. Moderate roasty aftertaste which lasts "forever". Very good Schwarzbier - I’m shocked this one isn’t rated higher!

(bottle) Dark brown colour with a medium foamy tanned head with slow lace. Toastmalty aroma with caramel and yeast. Slightly rostmalty taste with a light bitter chocolate dry finish. Lacks a bit body and taste.

(Bottle 50 cl) Dark brown - not black and not opaque either. Very dry, pretty much no hint of sweetness. Some "ashy" notes and a pronounced bitter finish. Not the world’s most characterful Schwarzbier. 190899

A very dark brown beer with a beutiful brown head. The aroma is lovely sweet with notes of caramel and malt. The flavor is boring though with notes of brewmash, caramel, and roasted bread on a sour background. Not the best Schwarzbier I’ve had.
