Harvest Ale

12 oz bottle from Odeed; Thanks Jake; nose of citrus and light piney hops; clear yellow-gold with a medium white head; flavor of grapefruit and piney bitterness. Pretty good APA!

Thanks to Eugene for recommending this beer; I would have passed it up otherwise - completely clear pale golden beer with a small ring of lace (could probably pass for a pale lager based on looks) - spicy, peppery hop aroma, with some buttery notes and light floral touches - the flavor is a strong, grassy, spicy hop showcase, with just enough malt sweetness to keep the beer from being too dry - the beer remains crisp and finishes rather clean, keeping the hops the star of the show all the way through - a nice, flavorful quaffer, perfect for late summer or early autumn.

Color is completely lucid pale, reaching into macro-looking territory. Just some spit in place of lacing, not nice looking. Aroma is awesome though, I don’t know how they did it but it’s strong on hops but they are not assertive on your nose. First comes citrus and lightly resin-y hops, then some floral/grassy German-like hoppiness and just a hint of sweet light-summer honey. Not aggressive, more of a misty feeling to the aroma. Taste is soooo light and yet full of flavor, more on the floral/grassy side with a good strong carbonation and felt bitterness to round it all off. Light and refreshing and definitely has a hoppy Pilsner (or very light Maibock) feel. Aftertaste is lightly white bread sweet with lingering grassiness. I could probably replace water with this beer, very nice brew, probably the best I have had from Southern Tier. 12oz bottle, Southampton shaker.

Bottled at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Clear golden, firm small head. Citric grapefruity hop aroma. Sweet with clean mouthfeel. Lots of hay and grapefruit from the hops. WIth it’s interesting sweaty hay character it gets reminiscent of an Americanized Hook Norton Haymaker. Lingering bitter finish. In many Southern Tier I have found the malt profile to be too hard and clean, but in this beer the mouthfeel is a little more rounded and the crispness feels more appropriate.

An average sized white head forms easily over this brilliantly clear, light gold beer. Spicy noble hop aroma. The flavor starts with a mild sweetness and finishes with a long, building, dry bitterness. An easy drinking beer thats hoppy, but not too hoppy.

Sample at AleFest Dayton: Bright golden color with a thin white head and minimal lacing. Citrusy hops aroma with roasted malt in the background. Light-bodied with a zesty character of herbs and spices and citrus. Nicely hopped but has good malt balance. The finish is hoppy yet sweet at times. Pretty good stuff.

With warm weather approaching (~75 today in Oxford) and leaving (highs in the 40s Saturday), the beer mood shifts from stouts, porters, and belgians to american pale ales and wheat beers. This pale ale hits the spot. Pours a clear amber orange with a thin off-white head. Nice, classic APA aroma with grassy, earthy, floral hops. These are abundant in the flavor as well, and the biscuity malt body provides just the right amount of balance. There is a hint of lemon too. Finishes with a piney bitterness. A clean, solid APA that doesn't push too many boundaries but definitely satisfies. Thanks Dan (jah noth)!

Orange, bright. Whispy white head. Aroma is lightish, but reveals chinooky, (or Centennial) notes (currany hops). Toasty flavour. Some sweet apricot notes. hint of wood, currant.

Pours a murky brown, but lighter towards the top, mahogany and chestnut reds. Good beige head that lasts, lot of lacing, nice aroma of hops, lots of caramel malt and a good amount of alcohol. Begins very malty, with lots of medium bitter hops background. Texture is great, slightly carbonated, caramel malt lingers and turns into a butter toffee. Finish is creamy and over fairly quick. Not as good as some other harvests, but the balance is definitely there. Flavor is true, just could use a bit more depth of hops profile.
