This Quadrupel Oak Aged has a deep-bronze colour topped with an amber head. Its aroma is defined by mixed wood and honey notes. These are followed by vinous flavours with a lingering port- or sherry-like scent.
The taste is quite smooth and full. For a Quadrupel this batch is rather dry and well-rounded as a result of a long maturing period in oak or acacia barrels. A two-year aging period is sufficient even if the full taste of this batch, if properly stored, warrants a good couple of years of enjoyability. Besides the effects exerted by red wine and brandy barrels, this Oak Aged also underwent Oloroso influences. The hop taste has all but vanished, but wood and wine tannins have left an agreeable bitter flavour.

Bottle @ ZZT 9, small sample. Clear amber color, short head. Aroma of caramel malt, bit alcohol, bit spicy yeast. Didnt get a lot of barrel aging to be honest, but I wasnt really paying attention either. Bit sweet in taste. Ok stuff.

Bottle @ home. Superb deep mahogany red color, medium sized a bit fizzy beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, lightly sweet, a hint of bubblegum, slightly caramel, a slight touch of oak-wood. Taste is moderate to heavy malty, again a touch of caramel, lightly warming alcohol with oak, wood and brandy coming through nicely. A nice alcoholic bitterness in the finish with some oak and other barrel aging flavors as well. After the beer warms up a bit the aroma gets more intense and complex while the taste gets more rich. Medium to full body, medium carbonation. -- Original rating April 5th 2014 [7-4-8-4-15=3.8]: Bottle @ ZZT 9 after party with ’sticking around Joes’ and Caesar. Nice deep dark red color, medium sized off-white head. Smell and taste malts, some sweetness, lightly alcohol, some liquor. There’s definitely some barrel aging going on here, but I don’t really get it in the flavor.
