Bottle, shared by Papsoe. An almost clear, golden beer with a finger-thick off-white head. Bready, grainy nose with some fruits. Bready, sweetish and grainy flavor with caramel and some hop-like bitterness. Medium body with maybe a tad much carbonation. Nice bitterness in the finish. Easy drinkable and certainly the best of the three Gruut beers this evening. (090514)

33 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden orange with a small off-white head. Light metallic and roasted malt aroma. Sweet and roasted malt flavoured, vague metallic touch on the back of the tongue. Ends bitter and with a lasting roasted malt note.

Clear amber with alarge beige head. Sweet malty aroma with bread and hints of roasted malt. Flavour was sweet with roasted malt, caramel and breadish notes. Finished sweet.

Bottle, 6.6%. Slow gusher. Yeasty aroma. Hazy chestnut colour. Small white head. The flavour is vinous, slightly malty with some baking yeast. Quite ordinary, but OK.

Bottled Bavik version Very light gushing to amber/cream head over pale foxy beer. Very nutty nose, sweet bread, very much like the aromas of a - very slightly oxidized - German Bock. Slightly burnt, roasted taste, Maillard-like. No trace of superfluous sweetness, but then no hoppiness neither. Bit thinnish body and MF, some slickness. Original recipe? I’m starting to believe it, too unsimilar to other Bavik brews, different feel. Was: 6/3/7/3/13 Rerating Draught @ brewpub Red-yellow fine & dense head over copper-clear beer. Lemony nose, slightly coloured malts, paint, caramel, faint spices in the finish. Dry, grainy, very malty like malt cookies. Plain and neutral, but certainly inviting. Gives me an impression of liquidized wholemeal bread. Medium bodied at best, some slickness. Much better to my liking than the bottled beer from Bavik. Yes, it’s easier to get it right, fresh from the lagertank, but there’s really something better. And I think it’s more than the spices, Annick!

Bottle. Pour is a very fizzy-headed amber with aromas of grain dust and bread with a little bit of a musty side to it all. Flavor is an odd mix of spice, earth and the a bit of acid/sour in the finish. I didn’t find that this combination worked well at all.

11.2oz bottle. Copper-amber color, with a relatively mellow and subdued aroma for the style. Rich and malty sweet, this one is highly drinkable while still remaining full of character. An excellent Belgian Amber.
