STEENBRUGGE Tripel abbey beer is a golden-blond beer with a rounded malt character, a scented touch of hops, a warm, full flavour and a fruity, lightly smoked yeast aroma combined with the subtle Bruges “gruut” blend of herbs and spices.

33 bottle, thanks to MiP. Pours clear yellow with a dense white head. Light fruity and yeasty head, light spice note. Flavour is mellow yeasty, light spiced and solid light caramel malt. Goes into a mellow yeasty and light sweet finish.

(Draught at The Rover, Gothenburg, 1 Aug 2007) Golden, pale amber colour with huge white head. Fruity, spicy notes with bread spices and a hint of almonds. Fruity, spicy taste with notes of apricots and grainy, spicy notes of "finska pinnar", bicarbonate and baking-powder. Average tripel with some strange grainy characteristics.

Bottle at the Hopdevil. Poured an orange-golden body with a tiny white head that went really fast. The nose is weak, bit vinuous and sourish. The taste is... mouth puckeringly dry, bit malty, but weak and an even weaker hopiness. Grainy. Nothing distinct, nothing special. Kinda pleasant but watery and dull.

Bottled. Golden colour, not much head. Aroma is semisweet, and has some notes of alcohol. Flavour is quite sweet overall, almost like some of the sweeter Eastern European Lagers... Still, quite close to nothing, and boring.

Pale yellow, a bit hazy, small white head. Fruity (mango and peach) and slightly alcoholic aroma. Quite watery mouthfeel. Lightly fruity, alcoholic and a bit sour flavor. Empty finish. Not much going on here, uninspiring tripel.

(Bottle 33 cl) My original version was from "De Gouden Boom" in Bruges. Orangey golden with a fine head. I get very vinous associations here - like a very good Chardonnay. Spicy with a late bitterness. Extremely, rich, aromatic and complex - the kind of beer that slowly unfolds in your mouth. Great stuff indeed. 151197

Very fluffy, airy ultra-white head; fizzy golden beer with greenish shine. Extremely neutral nose, just something faint fruity as whitecurrant. Little bit of diacetyl? Bready, slight-bitter initial taste; bit spicey and a bit of oxidation (6 months to BBD) it would seem. Gets more sweet eventually. Spicey finish. Texture both like mineral water and some - yes, silkyness. Medium bodied. Good attenuation, but not as some hy-strenght blondes. Very, very neutral beer. Doesn’t mean bad, but - what is there to enjoy that much?
