Following the substantial demand for “wittekes” or white beer in the mid-Eighties, we decided to develop our own version of this beer style. We use regional hops from Poperinge, as well as ungerminated wheat and several herbs for the specific identity of this cloudy beer.

Can from Beer52. It pours hazy pale muted lemon yellow with a medium fluffy white head. The aroma is fragrant, floral, damp grass, herbal, spicy, clove, twist of citrus and salty cracker. The taste is crisp, dry, snappy, green banana, twist of orangey citrus, minerality, chalky, floral, damp grain and herbal accents with a dry finish. Average body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Straightforward but quenching.

Straw-coloured, hazy, with a generous white head. Notes of wheat, coriander, citrus, and spices are evident on the nose. The body is rounded and smooth, with a moderate carbonation. The flavour is medium-intense, with notes of honey, bread crust, wheat, dried fruit, citrus, orange, a light spice, and coriander. The bitterness is weak, slightly herbal, with a spicy warming. Easy to drink and refreshing.

250ml bottle. Opalescent, yellow-ish, pale golden colour with average, frothy, osteoporosing, minimally lacing, white head. Wheaty malty and slightly spicy aroma, hints of orange peel, a touch of mustard seed, wasabi, coriander. Taste is wheaty malty and slightly spicy, hints of orange peel, coriander, a touch of mustard seed, wasabi.
Watery texture, smooth, simultaneously minimally dry palate, medium, mildly prickly carbonation.
Rather cautious, not overly refreshing - lame.

As "Witte Maan" at Café De Heks, Deventer. Aroma of citrus, lemon, slightly spicy yeast, wheat. Flavour is moderate sweet with a light bitter finish. Ordinary and thinnish, but refreshing. Rerate as "Watou’s Wit Bier": Same notes. Bready and a bit watery. Okay.
