"Smells like cat pee" she says. Doesn't taste bad, though.

New dry-hopped blonde by Huyghe, dubbed a "hazy hoppy hippo beer" and presented in admittedly high-quality cans with flashy label - seemingly an attempt at seducing the younger generation of craft beer hipsters, who probably tend to consider Huyghe as their last brewery of choice these days... Can bought at the Delhaize Zwijnaarde. Snow white, densely moussy, thick, cobweb-lacing, uneven-bubbled, slowly opening head, resting stable on a lightly misty yellow blonde beer with almost greenish tinge and lots of visible sparkling. Aroma of old potato mash and cold pasta, withering leek, overripe onion, shrivelled lamb's lettuce, rainwater, faint hints of wet dog, something sulfuric (freshly struck matches), rotting grass and soggy chicken food. Clean, 'crystalline' onset, dryish with weak accents of green pear and unripe banana but little sweetness, whilst sharply carbonated with minerally and rainwater-like effects accompanying the rest of the flavour 'parcours', over a slender cereally and grainy pale maltiness towards a drying finish in which light white pepper-like spicy accents are on top of a mildly bittering, floral and very distantly leafy hop character. Ends powdery and dry, balancing an imagined sweetness that never existed and forgetting to convey the lovely retronasal citric aromas Citra and Mosaic are capable of when correctly used. Hoppy alright, but in a dull, insufficiently aromatic, even somewhat earthy way, bluntly ignoring the possibilities the used New World hop varieties can offer; a hop-forward Belgian blonde, which only in its dryness and crispness can be called a saison. Huyghe very clearly is incapable of connecting to the postmodern craft beer movement - and they should not attempt such a thing to begin with, as far as I am concerned: perhaps finetuning their existing traditional recipes to a higher level of gastronomic ambition and enduring beauty would be a better idea than creating a new beer with nothing new to add and putting it in cans nobody in their right craft beer mind can be bothered with. The dryness in this one even becomes a tad astringent in the end, with nothing to balance that astringency against... Bland and boring, but fortunately cheap, is all I can conclude at this moment.
