Our style of brewing has always been about taking chances. It’s an extension of our “What if” mentality, wherein we ask ourselves what would happen if we did things differently in the brewhouse, such as fermenting with a different strain of yeast or, in the case of this beer, incorporating whole-leaf green tea imported from Japan. The answer, embodied in this IPA when we first released it in 2011, was something truly magnificent, delicious and well worth brewing again. But what if we changed it up a bit? This time around, we exchanged Pacifica hops from New Zealand for Helga hops from Australia. The result is an IPA that’s as bright, herbaceous and bitingly hoppy as the one that’s had our fans requesting its return ever since its depletion from store shelves, but with a modern, hop-driven twist that makes this second draft unique and tasty in its own right.

Bottle/Fest. A- Tea, pine, bitter, floral, herbs. A- Amber color, hazy liquid, off white head. T- Green tea, herbs, bitter. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- Lots of herbal notes and definite green tea. Not sure how I feel about this one, but the green tea certainly helped reduce the bitterness. Still not sure I would make a point to seek out green tea beers. I love the classy look of the bottle though.

Sample at the Great Nebraska Beer Festival courtesy of HuskerTan, thanks! Aroma has mixed herbs. Taste is slightly sweet, slightly boozy herbs. Interesting.

Bottle shared at The Cad’s 10 year get together. Thanks to Paul for this one. Light hazed yellow / golden coloured pour with a loose white head. Aroma is tea leaves, woody, jasmine, light Base malts and some tangerine. Flavour perfumed, jasmine, green tea, biscuit, some tangerine. Palate is nice and somewhat refreshing, highish carbonation. Firm bitterness. Nice delicate depth of flavour.

Bottle. Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Courtesy of the missus. Hazy, light amber. Thin, sticky, lasting, white head. Nice, toffee apple, orange hop aroma. Some wet hop. The green tea comes across herby, and lightly spicy. Smells great. Taste is soft sweet, turning fruity, herby bitter. Smooth palate. Quite creamy. Feels absolutely nowhere near the ABV. Long, light, herby bitter finish. Wasn’t sure I’d like this, but it’s lovely. Ridiculously drinkable.

Tap at Komachi. Deep golden color, hazy. Great nose of green tea and hops, very herbal, cirtus, pine, lightly malty. The tea comes though very well. Rich, creamy, and tasty. Again, lots of green tea, something like a maccha au lait but beer. Not too sweet and not syrupy for the size. Very enjoyable. Tea is much more noticeable this time.

22 oz. bottle purchased at Craft Beer Cellar, Portsmouth. Lots of suspended particle held in the bright yellow liquid of this brew. The aroma is really nice blend of tropical fruit, tea leaves and peaches.
The flavor throughout is very herbaceous from the tea with the tropical fruit flavors helping herbal character not get to overpowering. Decent malt bill giving honey and pale grain base. The finish is citrus with some grassy hints turning a pretty strong lasting bitterness that also shows the tea leaves again. Honestly it has a nice balance. Damn, I really dig this!

Bottle. Amber beer with a cream head. Grapefruit and malt aroma. Big tea flavor with grapefruit and malt. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Green tea and grapefruit linger with malt.
