Diep donker roodbruin bier met flinke crèmekleurige schuimkraag die lang blijft staan.
Aroma en smaak is moutig en wat dropachtig.
Nasmaak is houtig en rokerig.

33cl bottle from Prik&Tik Kampenhout, Belgium. F: huge, tanned, good retention. C: dark brown with red hue against the light. A: sweet malty, bit dark dried fruits, cocoa, bubble gum, banana, red apples peels, bit chocolate. T: full malty base, dark fruits, bit herbal, cocoa, bit chocolate, red apples, nice balanced bitterness, banana, soft to medium carbonation, they either change the receipt or at least change the ingredients because this is ok for Belgian Ale - Strong Dark style, enjoyed.

Commissioned beer commemorating the miners of the Limburgian coalmines of days gone by (the last one having been closed back in 1992), steinie bottle from Drinkhall Geenen in Balen. As Koolputter Zwart, renamed apparently since the advent of a blonde version. Thick and frothy, dense, creamy, egg-white, stable and tightly lacing head, lightly hazy deep brownish-bronze robe with coppery hue – but certainly not black. Aroma of caramel candy, quite strong iron (head stabilizer no doubt), bubblegum, butterscotch, fried banana, dry teabags, soggy peanuts, brown sugar, dried fig, apple peel, plastic. Sweet onset, rather cleanish, brown-sugary but not too cloying, fizzy carb, hints of fig, apple and banana; slick, resinous, full body, very clearly metallic on the edges with a bubblegummy effect as well. Ends sweet and malty with lingering metallic and bubblegummy notes as well as – unsurprisingly – a lot of ‘jenever’-like booze as well as a herbal, tea-ish hop bitter touch, however failing to add the bitterness that would have been very welcome here. Metallic, sweet, bubblegummy Belgian strong ale, not very pleasant really – and how their website dares to qualify this as an ‘imperial stout’, I’ll never know. Very clearly this brewer has never tasted an actual imperial stout the way it should be done… Disappointing!

Bottle @benzai. Almost the same as the previous one. A quadrupel marketed as a stout. It?s not even black. It? dark copper maybe. You can taste the alcohol, it?s very sweet, not roasty. Not my beer.
