Around the brewery, we listen to a lot of reggae, drink a fair share of coffee, and are devoted to our barrel aging program. In 2015, we had a one off imperial stout aging in barrels for close to a year. These barrels had a rich chocolate vanilla character, but needed a boost. Stauf’s Coffee Roasters, of Columbus Ohio, nailed the perfect roast on some authentic Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, to compliment the barrel aged stout. Champion Ground was born! The Illustration on the label is of Charlie Ace’s Swing-a-ling mobile record shack which was notorious for broadcasting the “Champion Sound!” Our version does this with fresh grounds and good vibes all around!

Bottle, 375ml. A black one, with a small tan head. Sort of oily. The aroma has lots of coffee, some boozy and dark chocolate, toffee and prunes, and a touch of vanilla. It's full-bodied, warming and smooth on the palate, with a nice sweetness. Some bitterness too. The flavor is coffe driven, with a good dash of bourbon, roasted malts and dark chocolate. Brown sugar, toffee and some dark dried fruit. Lasting finish with lots of coffee. Lasting finish. Delicous indeed. 231201

2022 bottle from Harvest. Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of brown head that dissipates. Huge espresso and dark chocolate aromas with oak, vanilla and bourbon as it warms. More of the same on the palate. Nice body with a punch of espresso and cacao nib. Lingering bourbon dark chocolate brownie vibes on the finish with oak, vanilla and warming bourbon hanging around for half a minute or so on the palate. Great stuff and on part with BCBCS.

Panda at the holiday cottage, Honeybourne Worcs, thanks to the Wingmane 04/09/22. Pitch black with a tan head that dissipates to a swirl and edgeing. Nose is coffee bean, bourbon, dark malts, spice, chocolate. Taste comprises rich coffee vibes, Tiramisu sugar melt liquid, dried fruit rinds, chocolate, ripe old bourbon punch. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost. Solid coffee forward BA impy ... runs just a touch on the sweet side for my liking but the coffee and bourbon balance more than compensate for me.
