4 oz. pour as part of a flight at the brewery. Opaque dark brown, lovely nitro head, excellent retention, nice lacing. Aroma is strong, sweet malt. Taste is sweet malt, nitro. Maybe late hint of sweetened coffee. Smooth, airy nitro texture, light body, soft carbonation, finish as taste. Nitro makes beautiful look but may not be helping flavor. Was expecting more body and flavor and expected this to be the star of the flight. A little disappointing.

Pint @ the brewpub. Comes black with a tan head, large head. Aroma is rich coffee with some light smoke and a b it of fumes. Taste is a bit less rich, more of a bit watery tobacco and coffee highlights. Has a medium thick mouthfeel yet easy drinking. Is it really that hard for all brewpubs to make a standard sweet stout at this level?

Sample at the brewpub. This beer pours oily black with a thin and compact brown head that dissipates slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. The aroma is somewhat roasty with notes of malt and coffee. Medium, smooth body with flavors of roasted malt and coffee as well as a bit of chocolate. The finish is smooth, creamy and thin at times with a coffee flavor that lingers a bit. Overall this Stout is pretty straightforward.

Draft, 8/4/07. Pitch black even in a narrow sampler glass. A thin tan head is still there after 20 minutes spent on other samples. Smoky chocolate smell with mocha in the back. Taste has sweeter coffee component, with s tring of chocolate and yes, old motor oil. Yet its nitro push gives it a smooth texture. Light alochol burn at the finish.

Good name for a stout. Anyway, congrats here because despite their use of nitro on this, and my hatred of the practice, this beer barely suffered for it, and may have had some traits it might not otherwise have had. You know it must be a robust beer to shine through the nitro. Nice black color with typical brown creamy nitro head. Aroma nicely done with alot of roast, chocolate and some coffee. Flavor also features the same trio of flavors. Smooth (duh) but not overly thinned out by the nitro - still feels like a beer.

On tap at Flat Branch. Dark opaque brown body, creamy tan nitrogenous head. Full body with rich, layered semisweet chocolate, caramel, and roast. After a few sips the chocolate became a bit too thick, muddy, and cloying. Not a bad beer but not especially good either.
