Aroma of red wine, tart fruit, red grapes, oak, light roasted malts, light coffee, some chocolate notes. Flavour is moderate sweet, moderate tart, with a light to moderate bitter finish. Starts out like red wine but the aftertaste is where the Imperial Stout shows up. Interesting take on the style.

Roast and barrel. Black pour with decent head and lacing. Bittersweet and boozy end. Real shot of bad offshoot. Bottle at Max's.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall light brown head that starts off as almost gushing from the bottle, but ends, rather tame and still. Aroma of alcohol, roasted malt, toffee, caramelised sugars, grain, oatmeal, oak, light vinous notes and a stronger hit from pitted fruit and especially spices with anise and yeast noticeable throughout. Medium to Full-bodied; Rich malt flavours dominate with some earth, a lot of pitted fruit, raisins, grain and a pleasant, but strong alcohol and almost medicinal flavour from the substantial grain and alcohol here. Aftertaste shows the punch with some nuts, earth, caramelised sugar, toffee, grain and a bunch of pitted fruits and raisin elements with some molasses and figs noticeable towards the end, but the red wine barrel aging shows through here with a lot of tannic flavours towards the end with the leather, anise and black currant notes very strong, not to mention the alcohol bite that shows through at the end. Overall, a strong and pungent beer, but full of flavours, especially those near the end that add significantly to the complexity of this one here. I sampled this stubby, belgian-styled 33 cL bottle purchased exactly FIVE years earlier on 18-January-2015, a few days after my second daughter was born, at Bier Tempel in Bruxelles, Belgium for €4,95 sampled at home at my house here in Washington with those kids, plus one more, five years later on 18-January-2020...Thanks Phil for going with me on the trip!

11.2 oz bottle poured. Dense, cola black pour, rich with active foam head that lasts. Multi layered flavors here. Wine really captures well with this stout. It's incredibly unique. Dark fruits, semi sweet, hints of being a touch tart as well, perhaps a wine barrel unlike others I've sampled. Taste is overall smooth, especially for double digits. Excellent.

Bottle. Almost black, Roasty vinous aroma. Red wine. Roasty vinous flavor with licorice. Has thinned somewhat due to the oak aging. The alcohol is there, but the red wine dominates.

Bottle 330ml. [ As Dead Mans Hand (Wine BA) ].Clear dark black color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, wine - red wine, moderate roasted, moderate chocolate, wood, dark fruit. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light acidic with a long duration, tart, red wine, roasted, wood, warm alcohol. IMO not very balanced. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20160422]
