Midnight Brett gets its name from the Midnight Wheat we brew it with. The dark wheat gives it a deep, dark chocolate color. The aroma opens with fresh berries and sour cherries, and ends with a warm roastiness. Each sip offers smooth drinkability met with the zip of tart fruitiness on the palate. We brew this beer with 2-row, Midnight wheat, raw wheat, and rye malt. It’s hopped with a blend of Perle, Glacier, and Simcoe hops. We then add our house strain of local, wild Brettanomyces yeast. The yeast works its magic over the next eight months where the beer ferments in a stainless tank. Midnight Brett begs to be shared no matter the hour on the clock.

Bottle from Matt, shared with Todd, thanks for the opportunity! Dark brown color with ruby highlights and a decent sized tan head that dissipates quickly. Moderate level of earthy brett aroma along with hints of caramel, cherry, chocolate and brown sugar. The flavor follows the aroma, a bit tame on the sour/wild front. Medium body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a slick bubbly mouthfeel. Decent brew, but feels like its not quite done yet. I know 100% brett beers don’t get horribly tart and or funky, but for me this one was just meh.

Bottle. First beer of 2014. Pours dark brown with off white head. Nose and taste of cherry vinegar, sour cherry, frozen berry, malt and cocoa. Mildly acidic. Medium body.

Draft. Deep brown color with thin soapy head. Nose is lots of different berries with a strong amount of Brett. Flavor is berries, grapes, hints of oak and light Brettanomyces. Also a light chocolate note. For a style I don’t drink very often, I really enjoyed this brew. Tartness and sour tones are very low which is why I like it so much. Subdued funk. Dry texture.

On draft at the big hunt it is a a dark brown with a slight head vthe aroma is of pineapple and the taste is sour cherries that lingers on the palate.

On draft at the Big Hunt in DC. Pours black with a tan head. Tart and funky aroma. Smooth mouth feel. Flavors of tart cherries, chocolate and brett. Tart and mildly bitter finish.

Out of a tulip glass at Harry’s Hofbrau. Pours a murky brown with red highlights and an off-white, light tan head that quickly dissipates. Moderate amount of raspberry and dark fruit. Moderate sour tartness. Beer is a little disjointed and could use some age to mellow out a bit.

Sampled at EBF. Pours a watery, deep brown with some clumpy white head. Smells like froot roll ups, artificial cherry, Brett C the whole way, cherry pie. Flavor is all Brett C, cherry pine, vanilla, strawberry candy, very fruity. Sweet and tart finish. Very nice.

Tap at Brewers Choice my favorite of the evening from the wonderful folks at Allagash. Pours dark brown with thin head. Great funky nose of coffee and wine. tastes of coffee, earth, lots of tart berries, leather, plums, residue from the bottom of bottle of Zin, and Brett wild sourness. really great and delicious.

Brewvival Trip Beer 100! And a very worthy beer for a BS milestone. Draft at Brewvival. Pours a dark red color with a thin tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of earth, cheese, funk, tart berries. The taste is tart berries, funk, cheese, earth, caramel, herbal notes, chocolate. Medium bodied, incredibly well balanced. Probably the best beer I had at the festival. Just incredible.
