We believe HopWired is the first bottled version of a true new world India Pale Ale made with NZ grown base malt and 100% truly unique NZ hops. We bet you’ll find nothing else like it on the shelves.
Although the malty sweetness is there, this beer is all about the hops. Unlike an American I.P.A. which will mainly hit you with a grapefruity-citrus flavour and aroma, the unique NZ hops used in HopWired are more like a tropical punchbowl: Passion fruit, lime, oranges and Sauvignon Blanc to name but a few. A local Marlborough winemaker said it smelled like gooseberries... Gooseberries? Who has ever smelled a gooseberry?? Decide for yourself or just enjoy it without further complications. Cheers!

Bottle from Bierkompass.de. Clear, amber, body, with medium, creamy, frothy, white head, that leaves a fair lacing. Great, fresh, fruity aroma of peach, apricot, passion fruit, grapefruit, pine, grass, sweet malt. Taste with generally the sama aromas, also very fruity and greatly balanced between hops and malts. Mouthfeel is medium, slick, with just the right amount of carbonation and finishes very fruity again, with a decent bitterness. Tasty! Extremely fruity and crisp IPA, with a great balance.

7.3% Bottle from Tanakaya. 8 Wired’s now being imported by Whisk-e, I hope we see these in Kansai soon! It pours a beautiful orange gold with a fantastic hoppy bouquet: grapes, kiwis, passion fruit, grapefruit - a real tropical aroma. The taste is nutty, like cashews from the malts, very mouth puckering bitter but sweet enough with floral & mildly fruity hop flavors dancing around your mouth. A really unique beer & as the label says the benchmark for an IPA made using only NZ hops. Truly good.

Bottle: Poured a bright orangey color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of floral hops with light tropical fruits notes is quite enticing. Taste is also dominated by some tropical fruits notes, with some flora hoppy notes and almost no bitterness. Malt backbone is quite solid but doesn’t interfere with the hops profile. Body is about average with good carbonation. Very well brewed but I was expecting an even more powerful explosion of tropical fruits.

500ml bottle kindly shared by Stefan at our Straight Outta Blenheim+ session. Concrete, frothy white head. Good lacing. Close to clear copper coloured body. Juicy malts and herbal hops to the nose. Fruit hoppy taste of grapefruit, peach and mango joined by caramel malts and followed by a dry, bitter finish that lingers for quite a while. Smooth in the mouth and well bodied. Good drinking (Tromsø 30.07.2013).

Keg at Brewdog Camden, London. A golden/amber coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Hoppy, tropical fruit aroma. Tastes hoppy, Malty, tropical fruit, caramel, bitter and slightly dry. Decent but I’m sure it would be even better fresh from its source in NZ.
