Enjoyed at the Bistro L’Autre Oeil in Aylmer, QC. Pours a hazy golden colour with a creamy head, good retention and a little lace. Great banana nose with the wheat, citrus and Belgian Ale yeast. Smooth wet mouthfeel. Wheat taste with the banana notes and a little bubblegum. A refreshing summer wheat beer.

Bottle 0.25l at home. Originally rated 02072012. Colour is hazy golden with small head. Aromas and flavours: Wheat, yeast and fruits.

Nice aroma, but the rest leaves a bit to be desired. Taste is wet paper, honey, lemons, with abrupt and dry finish. SHould have known this was going to be disappointing

Bottle 6C. A little darker than normal Hoegaarden. Bready aroma with lemon and spices. Sweeter than it too, with much more of a bready yeast character. Some apricot and banana. Very soft mouthfeel. Spices are there at the fairly crisp end. Bit of bitterness there too. A bit more going on than the regular version but at slight cost to the refreshment angle. Pretty good and hit the spot on a 40C day.

19th Oct 2012: bottle in ’t Puur Genot, a strange irish type bar in Diest. Noticed the advertising card on the table when we poured into the pub from it’s outside area when the rain started: decided to risk one. Cloudy, murky and misty: once I’d cleaned the glass I poured the beer in, it too was cloudy, murky and misty. No head to talk of, just a few bubbles exploding on the surface. Usual Hoegaarden lemony/orangey/citrusy notes: whats special about this speciale then? certainly not the smell. Tasted very simular too (as the normal brew): they may have added some sweeter fruit syrup into the brew to make it less tart and refreshing, would like to compare side by side with the original Hoegaarden. Not unpleasant, but not great either: a kind of sweeter less fizzy Hoegaarden in my eyes.

25 cl. bottle purchased discount @ local mini-supermarket // close to expired // bottle @ home // looks quite nice, honey amber with a reasonable creamy white head // smells very sweet artificial lemon, it is almost like lemonade, some minor wheat, coriander and honey as well but it is mainly that lemon that gets me // thick sweet wheat with artificial lemon. some cleaning products, lots of thick banana, like puree, sweet grains,bitter floral with some coriander, very sweet honey sauce, bitter, sweet at the time in the back, rather ugly and chemical // tad syrupy body with too much carb. // bit yucky but doable

(bottle, 25cl) Cloudy, orange-golden colour with a big and blond foamy head. Yeasty and wheat-malty aroma with a pronounced citric touch and soapy notes of coriander. Mildly sweet and sour-tart flavour, medium to light bodied with a lively carbonation. Present wheat-character with notes of citrus/lemon, a very subtle grainy touch, as well as coriander; mildly sour wheaty finish with citrus and bearable coriander spice. Finally refreshing. 29.III.12

25cl bottle. BBE 08/2012. Poured hazy yellowish with a frothy, lasting white head. Lovely citrusy aroma, yeast and typical witbier spicy. Flavor is the same, citrus and yeast rules. Refreshing. High carbonation. Lasting fruity finish.
