Please note the age of the sample you are reviewing when entering your rating. While many factors determine whether you have had "Jonge" or "Oude" Lambik, a general rule of thumb is to enter 1 year-old or older lambik under "Hanssens Oude Lambik" and anything less than 6 months-old under "Hanssens Jonge Lambik".

For those between 6 and 12 months of age, you should take in to consideration the character of the lambik. Samples presenting themselves as hazy/cloudy, with some head-formation and residual sugar should be entered as "Jonge Lambik", while those that are drier, higher in clarity and with little/no head formation should be entered as "Oude Lambik".

5/V/24 - from wooden barrel @ Toer de Geuze, BB: n/a (2024-275) Thanks to all for sharing today’s beers!

Clear to slightly hazy light amber beer, small irregular white head with big bubbles, unstable, falls down rather quickly. Aroma: pretty buttery, diacetyl, little funky, wood notes. MF: no carbon, medium to light body, little oily texture. Taste: lots of diacetyl up front, gentle bitterness, a little funky, wood notes. Aftertaste: more diacetyl, dry, a little bitter, ok.

Cloudy blond appearance with no head or carbonation. Aroma and flavour are very floral and much more complex than other lambiek. Good balance of sweet, sour and old barnyard funk.

Certain for a fact I had this during Toer de Gueuze. Cask, served flat, very hazy, metallic aroma with some sulfur and wheat. Taste, very sour, vinegar, lemonade and a little bit of cheese. Of the Jonge Lambik, this doesn’t rate too high for me.

Blend of wort from other lambic brewers (Hanssens doesn’t make lambic wort themselves) fermented at Hanssens and the basis of their kriek and geuze. Warm orange golden colour, quite ’neig’ character, very estery and fruity, lemon, orange, vinegar acidity, sharp but refreshing with a long finish.

From the foeder, 12 months of age. Hazy yellow color, big fluffy white head that settles quickly. Aroma of dusty apricot, peach. Taste is bright citrus with abackground of subtle barnyards. Delicious.

Straight from the barrel @ Tour de Geuze. Lightly hazy orange lambic with some white bubbles for head. Lightly fruity sweet with a touch of mustiness lambic with some flowers, mild mellow,…. Fruity sweet, very round & mellow lambic with light moldiness, lowers, light peach, old hops and light herbal touch. Flat, touch fuller body, outstanding, much better than the messed up old one I have had before.

Cask at City Beer Store. I was told this was the Jonge, but I’m not entirely sure. It was quite cloudy but had little head - possibly in between 6 and 12 months old. Wonderfully tart with some good funk. Acidic, lemony, yogurty, bracing. Had about four glasses and was definitely feeling some stomach burn. Nearly flat. Great pucker. Some horseblanket, cheese. A delicious young lambic with a sourness that forced me to sip slowly. I would love to have another shot at this one.

I was able to sample this on cask at Max’s Taphouse in Baltimore during Max’s Belgian fest. Pours a clear amber, orange with absolutely zero head and very little visible carbonation. Aroma of sweet tarts, oranges and wood. Flavor is very similar, orange, wood pulp, sweet and tart, yeasty with some flavor of white grapes. Very even and clean on the palate and just a touch syrupy. One of my favorites of the day.
