Small, amber tinted head over amber to light-chestnut beer. Sweet, almost syrupy nose, lightly roasted almonds. Less sweet than suggested by the nose, rather good balance between roasted and sweetish components; caramel, roasted peanuts, again a hint at almonds, and retronasal noble hops, just short of recognition treshold. Hints at parsley (typical for certain amber ales). Warming up, the syrupiness threatens to come through again. Medium bodied, certain slickness; rather low carbonation. Balance is remarkable. For once, De Koninck has managed succes beyond its iconic amber bollekes. Little doubt, IMO, that the long lagering has a heavy hand in this. Nose is less than impressive OTOH.
