Whisky barrel aged version (according to the brewery) of Gulden Draak Classic, launched in 2014 for the 230th birthday of the brewery, originally in 75 cl bottles only.

Gulden Draak Brewmaster is een ode van de zesde generatie meesterbrouwer aan de vorige generaties brouwers van de brouwerij Van Steenberge, aan het vakmanschap van onze traditionele brouwkunst en met name aan de vijfde generatie brouwer: Jozef Van Steenberge, die zich rond het jaar 1975 verdiepte in de speciaalbieren, gecombineerd met de experimenten van de nieuwe ‘Craft beer world’.
Bij de Gulden Draak Brewmaster zullen de brouwers het basisbrouwsel van de Gulden Draak Classic laten rijpen op houten vaten afkomstig van gedestilleerde dranken, afhankelijk van de beschikbaarheid.

Aroma: houtaroma, whiskysmaken

Bottle at BBT 06/2021. Malty aroma and taste, spicy yeasty notes, light to medium sweet and bitter. Medium to full body, malty spicy bitter finish. Ok.

Tasted @ BBT 07/2021. Murky dark golden color with mesium white head. Aroma: dark fruits, spicy, cloves. Taste: barrel presence is almost not evident, red fruits, caramel, toffee, spice. Kinda generic.

Bottle from Rubin77. Deep golden color with white head. Aroma of candy, sweet malt, alcohol. Taste, sweet malt, candy, nuts. Warming alcohol.

EB from earlier this week. Paired with sous vide charred moose, mashed potatoes and parsnip, fried Brussels sprouts, smoked pork and red wine sauce. Apple jam and light vanilla notes of the beer mellows the dish and marries perfectly with it. Damn good!

Bottle, 0.33l. Cloudy copper pour, one finger frothy off-white head, short lasting. Slight lacing on the glass. Sweet on the nose, malty, caramel and toffee, ripe fruits, herbal background. Medium to full body, average carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel and texture, mild fizzy, soft and chewy. Sweet malty taste balanced with mild bitterness in the background. Aroma of caramel and toffee, dried fruits, candy, molasses. Herbal, spicy notes, yeast. Earthy. Warming alcohol, subtle lingering burn on the tongue. Medium to long lasting finish, dry, boozy, lingering spiciness. Good one.

Bouteille d'or (recolte 02/ 2014): Quite light amber coloured, neither hazy nor cloudy, but lots of floaties visible, medium-sized creamy and stable off-white with a ruby sheen, moderate to solid sweet caramelly and fruity nose with mild traces of alcohol and of an even milder herbal bitterness, the aroma is hardly influenced by the announced whisky barrels; full bodied, solid sweet and both mildly bitter and sourish flavour; slightly lingering and a bit drier, but nevertheless sweet caramelly finish with a mild alcohol-burn and - finally - delicate traces of vanilla and wood. Not bad, but not my cup of tea...
